“VOYAGER” IN EDM MODE – WEEK 35 OF THE VIBES WEB3 MUSIC COMPETITION

Greetings to the vibrant Hive community!

I'm back for Week 35 of Vibes, and I couldn’t be more excited — this week is all about Electronic Dance Music! And for this sonic journey, I chose “Voyager” by the legendary Daft Punk. A track that not only bears the name but also feels like a true audio odyssey, perfect for this edition.

🎚️ Production and focus

I built this cover in my home studio using Pro Tools and my Arturia MK2 controller, which I used to map out various sounds and effects. The track combines MIDI instruments with live recordings to strike a balance between digital precision and analog soul.

The drums start off with a vintage kit in Addictive Drums to evoke that classic groove. Then, as the track lifts off, a beat inspired by the LinnDrum kicks in — that crisp 80s-style punch gives it the perfect EDM energy.

The guitar you hear in this version of "Voyager" comes from Ample Guitar, a virtual instrument that realistically emulates the sound of an electric guitar. While it’s not the star of the track, its role is essential—it adds an organic texture at the beginning and stays panned to the right, in conversation with a synth on the left. This interplay creates a subtle contrast between analog and digital, helping to widen the stereo field without breaking the electronic aesthetic of the piece.

🌌 Synths and soundscapes

I used synthesizers from the Arturia suite, mainly the Juno and Jupiter, to create atmospheric layers that fill the spectrum. On the left, there's a processed guitar line, and on the right, a synthetic counterpart — a stereo dialogue that adds width and depth.

The main lead is an arpeggiated Juno line that pays direct homage to Daft Punk’s Discovery era. I wanted it to feel like a nod to “Aerodynamic”, keeping that futuristic vibe and rhythmic pulse going.

🎸 Real bass, human energy

While synth bass rules in EDM, I chose to record a live electric bass and shape it with effects to get a Moog-like tone. This way, I keep that human touch without losing punch. It's a mix of organic warmth and electronic drive.

🧠 Total control via Arturia

Here’s how I mapped the pads on the Arturia MK2:

Bank 1-8:
🟡 Yellow pads: base drums (Addictive Drums)
🔵 Cyan pads: ambient synth layers (Juno/Jupiter)

Bank 9-16:
🟢 Green pads: LinnDrum-style main beat
🔷 Blue pads: arpeggiated lead in “Aerodynamic” style

🟣 Purple pad: live mute effects for dynamics

This setup gave me flexibility to perform and shape the track in real time.

This Voyager cover is my little tribute to Daft Punk and everything EDM represents: exploration, rhythm, community, and emotion. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think!

See you on the virtual dance floor!
