Thank God ItΒ΄s #NinetiesFriday!

For weeks I have been trying to recollect those Nineties memories with success I might add.

And as I told you last week:

π‘»π’“π’šπ’Šπ’π’ˆ 𝑻𝒐 π‘Ήπ’†π’Žπ’†π’Žπ’ƒπ’†π’“ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 90𝒔 - My Ladies Of The Nineties

Some memories get even more beautiful when they age, so best to leave them in the past. But with the good, there is always a bit of bad.

Although we try to forget the bad even faster than we forget the good.

In this episode, I want to focus on a few of those bad memories.
Shitty things that happened to me or that I did back then.

Getting smashed in the face by 4 guys

It was winter 1990, I was on my way to skate because back then we still had winters. And when I left the school I was followed by 4 thugs, real low-class bastards because why else come with 4?

Now I knew one of the guys, he was the sort of ex-boyfriend of my sort of girlfriend back then, sort of as she always wanted to tell him but never did.

Now they started to hit my face while driving, till I put my bike down, that didnΒ΄t stop the hitting but one punch was pretty decent I went down and they left.

Thank God it was winter and when I reached the pond where we skate there was ice and snow to slow the bruising.

Now that scared me a little, or maybe a lot but not enough to stop seeing her as those pussies really did not know how to properly punch.

The ex dufus by the way got what was coming to him, Karma is my bitch and 6 months later she came running telling me the dufus was cornered just outside of our school and approx twenty classmates were holding him in place waiting for me to arrive,

So when I got on the scene his sort of ex was there as well trying to not get him punched, and whatΒ΄s a boy to do right?

I walked up to him, and his skinny ass was a lot taller than me but I did not have to look up because he melted there right in front of me.

"ItΒ΄s easy for me to do what you did to me, I can jou your face and they will make sure you donΒ΄t hit back. I can hit you 10 times and break those glasses hoping the splinters will stick in your face forever. But I donΒ΄t hit a boy with glasses, and I am not like you. I donΓ±t need to hit you, I just need one thing."

I paused for the crowd to get even more silent as they were yelling to punch his lights out till now-

"I need you to promise me right here in front of everybody that you and your friends never come close to me again. I donΒ΄t even need a sorry, just say I promise to stay out of your way."

The boy was nodding, "I donΒ΄t need you to nod, promise."

A "I promise," followed but well the guy had hurt my ego so. "A little louder please I want everyone here to hear it. "I promise."

"Great, then leave now," I gave him a little push against the chest and walked away.

It truly was a little push but I had seen the low fence behind him and I knew that just a little push should be enough to make him fall.

Okay, so that is one of the worst things that turned into a pretty cool story. But I will not be as elaborate on all my dirty little Β΄90s deads.

Stealing schoolbooks

There was this schoolbook called the Great Forrest Atlas at least if you translate it from Dutch and you needed to have it but no one ever used it. It was quite expensive to buy it new, but there was this bookstore that bought and sold second-hand copies.

At first, we were able to steal a couple of them from the Geography classroom, and we sold them. Then we sold our own, because we never used the book.

And then as if stealing from school and your parents is not already really bad we crashed somewhere after a party with a guy from another school (the we in this story is always my friend Tjarda and me). We woke up in a room, saw the book and well we never saw the guy and the guy never saw the book again.

But I blame this second-hand bookstore because they allow 16-year-old kids to sell them the same book at least 5 times each.

Crashing someone else's scooter

Okay, this is a short one, and just because everyone saw it. I was allowed to borrow my friend's scooter to go to the practice fields for PE. I had driven it before, but now on the way back, I was showing off like a good 15-year-old and hit the sidewalk.

Oops, I felt so horrible. In the end, he was able to get it fixed by the insurance but I never asked to borrow it again. or maybe that was because 6 months later I was 16 and got a moped.

Getting kicked out of school

For me it was the best year ever, the year I got kicked out of school. Someone had stolen my bike and I did not want to walk home. So I found another bike that was not locked and borrowed it.

Now just after I got home the mom of a classmate called my mom asking her what bike I got home on....

I am a decent guy, I would not steal a bike from someone I knew and so I brought it back.

But the school still thought it was enough reason to make this my last year.

Well if itΒ΄s my last year then I only go to the lessons I enjoy, and that as exactly what I did. I went to history and English sometimes Dutch and to Economics just to annoy the teacher and let him kick me out of class.

It was wonderful, but of course, getting kicked from a school is a terrible thing so that is why it made the list.

Being too drunk to reach my bike

Another 1990 story, I had been smoking weed for approximately two years and therefore never been interested in drinking. That night the oldest guy in our group of friends turned 16 and he had a party with more beer than I ever had seen before.

So I had one, two, three bottles of beer and I actually felt quite sober...then I lit up a joint.

That is a lethal combination if your body is not used to one of those two substances and in my case, that was exactly the case,

I spent 30 minutes on his parent's toilet, and then 90 minutes trying to reach my bike that was about 100 meters from his front door. But I could not walk more than 20 without having to lie down.

I remember people walking by asking me if I was okay, but I guess I was because 90 minutes later I was on my bike. I think I fell with it a couple of times or almost fell.

I have no clue why I was not stopped for driving under the influence because it was a 30-minute drive but it took me an hour so time enough to get caught I would think.

But I got home, sort of safe, and then I woke up by the sound of my mom banging on my door asking if I was alright and why my bike was in the front yard...and I went "Is it, no idea why."

Having to eat bread every night for a week

1995 was my absolute poorest year ever. It was the first year living on my own and I preferred to make sure I could smoke weed every day.

This worked all fine except that I just did not make enough money to have a habit and eat healthy.

No matter how I tried, those last 4 days of the month, the days I was not going back home to Mama I ate bread with chocolate sprinkles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The worst thing is, I still love bread with chocolate sprinkles but nowadays I use real butter and not the cheap fake stuff I used back then.

Thank goodness you made it till the end Pees, Love and I am out of here!

WTF do I do on #NinetiesFriday?

Well, don't do what I do because I just stole the below as it is good enough for copy/pasta!

But some ideas are music, movies, television, sports, or really anything Nineties related.

I assume movie, tv, or music topic reviews or talk will be most common, but you could also talk about a sports memory or something else.

Think the Pop Culture of the times, but it would be great to hear about little known and interesting bands or entertainment items. Don’t forget to use tag #NinetiesFriday

@geneeverett will give 3 basic income units to a winning random post every week that uses the #NinetiesFriday tag. Also @thebighigg has jumped in to match for 6 total weekly prizes! If anyone else wants to sponsor with 1 unit let me know or just send if you don’t wanna commit to weekly πŸ‘

All images by MyI and AI except for the stolen #NinetiesFriday image of course.

Those are some great 90s memories, in the video getting best up by guys in suits, I guess you wouldn't see that these days. I also remember scrimping by when I first moved out at 16 and also doing late night munchie runs to the garage!

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions posts!

You know they were great times when even the terrible memories seem good looking back. This #nintiesfriday thing really brought back some long-forgotten scenes and songs.

Thanks for picking because a few more 90s nuts joining this #ninetiefriday tag would be great!

Now the comment makes more sense, but you didn't miss much although maybe the 00s would have been better to miss out on. Anyway you can get stupid drunk in any era...

But my 90s were great fun looking back

That's where I picked up the country music phase.. country music was the shit in the 90s.. I'd already lost my girl, my house, my truck and my dog.. it was either turn to country music or Jesus.. I went with the one I could believe in..

Haha cool story!

And yeah, I remember the good old "grote bosatlas" haha! I can still see it in front of my eyes when I think about it..

The next episode from Dr. Dre brings up so many memories man! We used to go clubbing and every time that song started we got in the mood to dance the night away haha. I loved it and it was such a party starter.. I can still remember where we were a lot of these times :)

Thanks for bringing up some cool memories! !PIMP it

That sounds like one hell of a night, glad you made it home. Mixing booze and THC is something you have to work into slowly... Must of been fun explaining how the bike ended up the front yard!

Great music you got in there today, love Jane's Addiction and Incubus!

Incubus is actually a great band but don't tell anyone I said so!

I was so vanilla it was the first time I had more than one drink....but I worked it out later in life but I am still impressed with myself actually getting home

Crazy beautiful stories 😍🀭
I agree with you, the people in that book store should be blamed because why would they buy the same book consistently without thinking of where they're coming from?
This was a nice read ☺️
