At Kusini Tavern, the live band gathered to give the clients, workers, football fans, and visitors a taste of Lingala music; a cover edition. Behind them, the projector entertained the football fans, while the music lovers leaned in, waiting for their own kind of kick-off.

The tavern fell silent. The game was muted. The drummer rested his sticks gently on the skin of the drum, summoning the room’s attention. The pianist and guitarists followed suit, making way for the singers. Then, as the lead voice rose and pierced through the beats, the house transformed; what was once a tavern became a dance hall.
