Hey neighbor, I thought of something else. If everybody’s hammering away on the same riff, you can play less. Nobody will notice or care. As long as the groove and rhythm is solid, you can play hardly anything in the beginning, and then play the full riff after the middle of the song.
It sounds good this way. Layering, giving the other instrument space in the beginning. You know how we all tend to be, blowing our load too early in the solo, playing all of our best licks during the first 24 measures of the song and having nothing later. Wait, what are we talking about?
Oh yeah, play less in the beginning and it sounds groovy.
