Yeah, I know what you mean. Bass is supposed to be hypnotic, but in situations like this I try to communicate the different sections to the other players with dynamic contrast. So if the base part is the same, the whole time through, I get super quiet when the Singer comes in. If it doesn’t sound too awkward, I play the same riff on a different octave.
And then, if that doesn’t work, I press a magic button and my guitar pick ups turn into bottle rockets/Roman candles. 😁
