A GUN SHOT AT THE TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE
A GUN SHOT AT THE TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE
I didn't know mr wax although the lady he was getting married to was my very good friend and a next yard neighbour named mary. Mary invited us to her traditional marriage and even booked a bus that was going to take us to and fro for most of us that complained about the transportation, it was a free transportation so as good neighbours, we decided to celebrate with her and her new husband which we never met before.
1, 2, 3 it was already thursday and i have buckled myself inside a good stunning native wear of my own because i couldn't afford the asheobi for the ceremony, stood on top of a nice and solid shoe because me and dance were like 5&6.
Vuumm was the sound of the bus catapulting us from uyo down to calabar, and i almost lost some weight that morning as we were jumping and flying up and down inside the bus due to bad roads.
Arrived at obino village precisely in calabar and we were almost late already because we left uyo quite late, some special canopies were already preserved and kept for us and they welcomed us as chiefs on the occasion and i was more like the leader of this crew based on what i wore.
"Richie, we are going to dance o, to welcome the groom in are you ready?" my friend asked and i replied him "i came prepared" with a dangerous smile on my face.
The instrumentalists were taking it to another level putting me in the mood on a good traditional vibe with lead string guitars and notch vocals by the singer, you should know what i mean if you are familiar with our local traditional marriage ceremonies.
Gbim gbim gbim was my head nodding up an down synchronising to the kicks from the drums by the drummer and my shoes moving side to side one after the other as the keyboardist massaged the keyboard 'party don start'.
We cued into the crowd, dancing with the groom as we welcome him to sit for the ceremony and immediately he was about to sit, the instrumentalists took the music to another level of afro high life. The lead guitarist moved his hands rapidly across the strings of the fred playing like he had 12 fingers on one palm and the tempo of the music increased with great melody scattering my medulla oblongata(brain box), i couldn't bear anymore than to display my talent, i almost danced more than the groom himself.
All was fun and i felt i was in heaven already until we heard tauu tauu tauu...(three gun shots)
The next moment i was seen coming out slowly from behind the vehicle that brought us to the occasion as i was hiding asking people "watin sup?" Meaning what happened?.
I was told that the groom mr wax is a police officer and three police officers released one shot each into the air, which is a sign of celebration in the military and police standard.
In fact, i was angry but couldn't do anything because they are government officials if not, "them for see me"
The spirit of dance left most us after that incident and then mr wax cautioned his officers that they should have opened fire after the crowd had concluded dancing not in the middle of the dance and at the top most moment for that matter.

Hahahaha. You too dey fear. You didn't even calm down to know why the gun shot. I'm sure people laughed at you that day. A man like a woman.
Haha.. i think safety comes first before questioning 😂
People couldn't laugh at me because 80 percent of the crowd were frightened due to the incident, na run i run i no kii person 😂😂
The bad road is a slimmer therapy.
Seriously, how would they shoot a gun at such event. They do such in eastern Nigeria where important events are taking place.
You scampered for your dear life, it is understandable 😂😂😂
Haha.. life is more important than anything else 😂.. the groom getting married was a police officer so his boys had to do the usual but at the wrong time 😂
It was a sign of honor to the groom.
Yes it was. Thank you for coming through man

Wow, I will pick race too o haaaa gun shot. I don't play with it at all, make stray bullet no come hit person🤣. Safety first, but that shooting should be at the end of the program na

Yes the shooting should have been after the crowd had finished dancing and that is what the groom didn't like as well..
