Hola a todos de nuevo

vuelvo a la carga con "Mi Colección de Vinilos" y hoy vamos a empezar a desempolvar también algunos discos de música electrónica, hasta ahora todas la entregas de esta serie estaban dedicadas a discos de "rock & roll", y hoy empezamos con mis favoritos de aquella época, "A Split Second" y su álbum "From The Inside".

Como ya os conté, el primer disco que compré en mi vida fue el álbum "Brothers In Arms", pero pasaron algunos años hasta que pude comprar vinilos, fue cuando encontré mi primer trabajo en una discoteca del pueblo en el que vivía y cuando tuve mis primeros ingresos más allá de la paga que me daba mi madre. Se trataba de un pequeño garito oscuro en el que ponían una música que me fascinó, lo llamaban "bacalao" y era una amalgama de artistas "underground", post-punk y electrónicos donde se mezclaban temas de "Peter Murphy", "New Order", "Front 242" o los propios "A Split Second". Este movimiento pegó fuerte en España, hasta el punto que se creó "la ruta del bacalao". Todos en mi país sabemos de lo que estoy hablando pero si estás leyendo estas líneas desde otro lugar del mundo puedes buscarlo en internet y verás de que se trataba.

Con el tiempo "el bacalao" evolucionó a través del Progressive y en Trance y otros estilos previo paso por el Acid House, cuando llegue el momento también escucharemos algunos vinilos, así pasaron esos años entre 1987 y 1992, todo lo que vino después ya fue diferente, al menos para mi, ya que yo me fui más por los derroteros del "grunge" y el punk rock, pero esa etapa ya fue de compact disc, y no tanto de vinilo.

Volviendo a álbum que hoy nos ocupa, "From The Inside" decir que contenía el que fue mi tema favorito mucho tiempo, "Mambo Witch", sobre todo en su versión extendida, que es la os voy a dejar más bajo para escuchar y que por desgracia es uno de esos vinilos que he perdido y de las pérdidas más dolorosas de la colección, aunque afortunadamente la versión original está incluida en este LP. No voy a extenderme demasiado en la banda, mejor dicho en el dúo, ya que para eso tenéis al principio de este artículo en enlace a la Wikipedia donde podréis encontrar su bio y su discografía. Lo que si quiero decir es que este fue el primer álbum que publicaron, ya que anteriormente solo tenían singles y maxi-singles, como era habitual en este tipo de bandas de música electrónica o EBM (Electronic Body Music). Los temas "Flesh" y "Rigor Mortis", anteriores a este álbum también se encontraban entre mis favoritos.

Como siempre os dejaré enlaces de YouTube con el álbum completo y con mi canción favorita del mismo para que podáis escucharlo. Sonido crudo y oscuro, casi gótico, con algunos toques de guitarra distorsionada y letras en la misma linea. No era habitual en los maxi-singles de este estilo encontrar demasiadas voces, aparte de samples y voces robóticas pero este álbum también marcó una diferencia en ese sentido respecto a sus publicaciones anteriores.

Hi again, everybody

I'm back with "My Vinyl Collection" and today we're going to start dusting off some electronic music records, until now all the installments in this series were dedicated to "rock & roll" records, and today we start with my favorites from that time, "A Split Second" and their album "From The Inside".

As I already told you, the first record I bought in my life was the album "Brothers In Arms", but it took a few years until I was able to buy vinyl, it was when I found my first job in a nightclub in the town where I lived and when I had my first income more beyond the pay that my mother gave me. It was a small dark club where they played music that fascinated me, it was called "bacalao" (cod) and it was an amalgamation of "underground", post-punk and electronic artists where songs from "Peter Murphy", "New Order", "Front 242" or "A Split Second" themselves were mixed. This movement hit Spain hard, to the point that "la ruta del bacalao" (the cod route) was created. Everyone in my country knows what I am talking about but if you are reading these lines from another part of the world you can look it up on the internet and you will see what it was about.

Over time "el bacalao" evolved through Progressive and Trance and other styles, after passing through Acid House, when the time comes we will also listen to some vinyl, that's how those years passed between 1987 and 1992, everything that came after was already different, at least for me, since I went more along the paths of "grunge" and punk rock, but that stage was already compact disc, and not so much vinyl.

Going back to the album that concerns us today, "From The Inside" to say that it contained what was my favorite song for a long time, "Mambo Witch", especially in its extended version, which is the one I am going to leave you below to listen to and that unfortunately it is one of those vinyls that I have lost and one of the most painful losses in my collection, although fortunately the original version is included in this LP. I am not going to dwell too much on the band, rather on the duo, since for that you have a link to Wikipedia at the beginning of this article where you can find his bio and his discography. What I do want to say is that this was the first album they released, since previously they only had singles and maxi-singles, as was usual in this type of electronic music or EBM (Electronic Body Music) bands. The tracks "Flesh" and "Rigor Mortis" from before this album were also among my favourites.

Raw and dark sound, almost gothic, with some distorted guitar touches and lyrics in the same vein. It was not usual in maxi-singles of this style to find too many voices, apart from samples and robotic voices, but this album also marked a difference in that sense with respect to his previous releases.

Billy Korg a.k.a. NuPulse, Electronic Music Producer bred in the Spanish "Raver scene" with the SensinGiJs (SensinDJ + Billy Korg), making live acts just using Roland and Korg hardware. Spent two Years in Ibiza producing and playing live with B&P Blues Progressive (with Nando Pemán -guitar- & Alejandro Pugliano -saxo-), a chill-out and downtempo band making countless shows across the island. Tengo una colección enorme de vinilos. Toda clase de géneros, por problemas con mis oídos, tenía que oírlos con moderación. Pero el sonido del vinilo tenía algo especial, no lo puedo describir con exactitud, era algo diferente.

Tal vez restaure un par de tocadiscos para escucharlos una vez más. Es una pena tener tantos y no darles uso. Cuando llego la locura del disco digital, el tocadiscos fue quedando relegado y arrumado.
Igual paso con los cartuchos de música, creo me queda solo uno con canciones de Elvis, en algún lado del depósito. Eran cartuchos enormes, si no me falla la memoria era de ocho pistas, luego aparecieron los casetes y el cartucho paso al olvido.

Así es, yo los cartuchos ni los he conocido, supongo que me escribes desde América, aquí en España y en Europa en general no llegaron a tener mucho éxito aunque algunos coches lo tenían incorporado, si lo tuvo en cambio el cassette y por supuesto el vinilo, fue el rey hasta principios de los 90, porque el compact disc no estaba al alcance de cualquiera en aquella época. Respecto a los oidos, también ya con problemas serios, aunque siempre la música a un volumen prudente y nada de auriculares, mis años de DJ me dejaron muy mal 😅.

Precisamente, lo tengo para reproducirlo con un reproductor de un coche. Nunca pude de hacerme con otro tipo de reproductor.
