RE: Stop Waiting for a Label to Discover You: Building Your Own Music Career from Scratch

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

I think the only way to make money in the music biz these days are just like the old days...live paying gigs.

Pubs at first until you find an audience and scale it up.

People want to see live music. Personally I think the current streaming services are finished or will be pretty soon.

Many big acts have pulled their music off these platforms.

Why do you think the Stones still tour? Tickets pay wages plus they sell albums and other merchandise.

Live performance builds an audience of true fans in my experience which is quite extensive.

I was in the music industry for years and saw what worked and what didn't.

This is true. It's the only many many artists are making any money at all is gigging. But some of these acts... DAMN at the ticket prices, lol. I ain't paying it, lol. Especially in the states where we have Ticketmaster or Ticketbastard as I like to call them, and Live Nation that tack on these insane fees on top of tickets that it nearly doubles the price.

I am trying to figure out how people can at least do some live streaming either here or just go through our Discord. Have some open mic nights or whatever in the Discord kind of thing.

Ticketbastard

is another huge problem that needs kicking off the planet.

Eye-watering ticket prices changes the dynamics of who can attend a concert.

We still have pubs and small clubs where we can see live music and they are well attended with small or no entrance fees.

yeah, we do too. I have just been pretty anti social lately, which needs to change I suppose if I am going to try and grassroots this thing, lol. People are just weird these days, lol.

Tell me about it lol. No one seems to want to put the work into building a music career the right way.

I blame social media for giving a false impression of what it takes to make it.

100%!!! which is what upvote I gave this comment, lol. I mean the dead internet theory is real. It's getting where bots have out numbered the real people. That's one of my biggest issues with marketing is that at this point social media, even paid ads, are like screaming into a void.
