[GOMA] Swallow our Salvation / Music Video by Julia K. Ponsford
An ode to GOMA / A dark folk song composed and recorded for the Utopia/ Dystopia Community Art Show hosted by @stellabelle
Stella announced this community show a few weeks ago and the first thought that popped into my head was a song but I wasn't sure I would be able to complete it on time. I almost pivoted to make some still art but the song kept nagging my brain and finally a concept emerged and I got it don'e in time!
I chose the theme of DYSTOPIA, the concept of the show is built around Stella's dystopian world, in this world the citizens take a drug called GOMA to keep them happy and compliant. The lyrics for this song are meant to show the insidiousness of GOMA but also praise it's soporific and calming abilities.
The song is played on acoustic guitar tuned down a full step, I recorded and mixed using Bandlab. Mixing is not my strength but I think it came out pretty decent except for one annoying little guitar string buzz I couldn't clean up.
The video is edited using clips from a documentary I found in the Prelinger archives about LSD which seemed fitting.
Here is the song / [GOMA] Swallow our Salvation
Lyrics:
Where tomorrow makes us scream
There's a magic little pill, oh,
Turning nightmares into dreams.
Drowning our fears, in its sweet embrace.
No more tears, no more pain.
With GOMA's touch, we'll all feel the same.
Smiling in a GOMA haze.
In its grasp, our worries soften,
Lost in a compliant daze.
In its embrace, our sorrows are shed.
Uniform hearts, in a world so cold,
GOMA's warmth, a sacred blindfold.

You sound really nice
I never knew that Bandlab application is this good
This sounds like you went to the studio
It's pretty goos for a free app, takes some getting used to for sure!
This is the type of music and melody that I like. Bravo for this very beautiful composition which leaves you dreaming. There has to be a sequel, it's never long enough. Music being an art, it allows you to travel and share emotions through words or melodies. For me what speaks most is the melody. Often I don't understand the words but the vibration of the melody I appreciate. Congratulations again for this very beautiful musical work
Thank you 😘
Holy Molly!!! I have to finish mine today
Lol go go go!
Congratulations for this great work, it sounds spectacular and the lyrics are to dream and forget the sorrows. Here's to more songs like this one! Thanks @juliakponsford 😃
