Catching Wisky and Coke at Section 30
Hello Music Friends,
I wanted to tell you about an up-and-coming local band I saw perform here in Da Nang called Whisky and Coke. They're a young three-piece group composed of a talented guitarist, hand drummer, and lead singer who really impressed me with her wide vocal range.
The band plays a lot of modern pop and rock covers as well as some jazz standards, putting their own unique spin on the songs. I caught their show last night at Section 30, a cool open-air bar here that has live music 3 nights nights of the week.
The lead singer has an incredible voice and hit notes all over the register from smoky low tones to crisp high belts. She really controlled her dynamics, conveying emotion across upbeat pop songs and sorrowful ballads alike. Meanwhile, the guitarist displayed skilled technical abilities for someone so young, complementing the vocals with bluesy riffs and rhythmic chunks on his hollowbody electric.
I made sure to capture some photos and video clips during the performance to edit later. Playing around with filters and effects, I got a few artsy black and white shots of the band that turned out nice. I sent them to the singer who said she loved them and gave me permission to share them here.
Getting to discover and enjoy live music like Whisky and Coke is one of my favorite things about immersing myself in the local scene wherever I travel. I hope you also get the chance to check out some up-and-coming talent in your own community soon. Here’s to supporting local artists and the power of music to bring people together!
