Your thinking is largely correct ... the system is designed to put people in debt through advances, and then when they spend it all, they then have to work to pay off that debt to the companies ... debt slavery in disguise, because it forces the artists to work to pay the debt, not work as they are inspired, and that generally leads to their decline internally as well as externally.
