Today you would be 58 today, dear friend. I take the liberty of writing these words to you because I am a firm believer in the art, the legacy and above all, the undeniable contribution that you and your friends in Nirvana have left in culture to this day. In 1994, I was only 2 years old. In April of that fateful year, you decided to make an irreversible decision that would change the lives of billions forever. All of us who admire and love you will always keep asking ourselves "Why, why, why?

You said it so well, in that last letter to Frances, your daughter, on 5th April 1994; ‘...It is better to burn out, than to die out slowly...’. Undoubtedly, you passed away at 27... Practically, thus ending a golden age of music, of culture and above all, a period of talent that to this day, 31 years later, is still important and above all powerful in the lives of all of us. In Aberdeen, Washington, USA, your hometown, where you experienced all the nuances of existence, lies your grave. There, on a day like today, as on every April 5th, I am sure you will always find one of us who will love you until our last breath.

Back in 1999, on a Christmas edition of an album that I can't think of right now, Foo Fighters, the band that your friend Dave Grohl made, dedicated on the back a line directly to you ‘Thank you Kurt, for the inspiration’, showing that even 6 years later, you were still in the memory of them, of us, of everybody... If you saw your daughter today, you wouldn't believe it.... She is simply beautiful, and she is quite a woman. I think we're the same age, she and I. She has your eyes, you know? She has your eyes, you know, and I'm sure there's a lot more of you in her than can be seen from a distance.

Oh, my friend, believe it or not, ‘Something in the way’, that very personal song you decided to do after living homeless in Aberdeen as a young man, became part of the score of The Batman... I'm sure you never thought that your beautiful music would be in a superhero film... Each and every generation that has lived after your departure still marvels at the strength of your voice and the passion your songs inspire. My friend, I'm not exaggerating when I tell you, I don't think you will ever be forgotten...

Kurt, your band, Nirvana, the one that started in Kris Novoselic's garage and where (I think) you were more genuinely happy than anywhere else, got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You had to see it, man... Paul McCartney played your songs... What?! Can you believe it? God, it was so beautiful... Oh, dear Kurt, I think I understand why you decided what you decided, and I think that even though I will never agree with you, I understand your reasons... Today, I wasn't planning to do any of this, but the internet, a stupid thing we create to amuse ourselves and keep us ‘entertained’ reminded me of your birthday, with a picture of you on your 27th birthday, performing ‘In Utero’ in Seattle in 1994... Dude, I miss you. I never met you but you miss us terribly. I hope you are at peace.
