Yeehaw! (Music)
Tuesday's gone, or nearly so but there might just be enough time to squeeze in a #threetunetuesday. Been stuck in a bit of a musical rut lately, bored of my musical rotation and in need of something new. Finally managed to break free, so I thought I'd share some of the tunes that did the trick.
First up is Maktub which I believe is Arabic for "It is written." The track is by Gary Clark Jr, one of my favorite guitarists and the only one of these three I knew about before last week. The tune rocks but I just want that car... Definitely a good one for those 'Yeehaw, fuck the law!' occasions.
Was going to say that Gary Clark Jr was the nearest equivalent we have to Jimi Hendrix but Mdou Moctar might have something to say about that. He's from Niger and you can readily tell he's drawing on a different musical background and you can tell in the way he plays. I'm no musician, can't tell you exactly what he does differently but the riffs and everything are all just different. Give Imouhar a listen and let me know what you think.
Last but not least is a tune I just stumbled upon today. Don't know the least thing about Stephen Wilson Jr but Cuckoo is a track that just about anyone can relate to nowadays. Definitely counts as yeehaw music.
Still a few minutes left til midnight but that's a tune for another day, I'm calling this a win. Anybody else got some yeehaw music?
Just checked out Cuckoo. Seems like a fun song man.
It really is. I stumbled upon him yesterday and have been listening to the album Cuckoo is on ever since.
Gary Clark Jr is amazing gutarist. My favorite of him is When My Train Pulls In
He's such a badass. It's a tossup between When My Train Pulls In and Bright Lights for me :)
Bright Lights - what a song 👍👍👍👍
Damn, Imouhar SHREDS. If you like that music, check out Tinariwen. Similar-ish feel but slower, more moody. They're from Mali. Thanks to you I looked them up and realized they're coming to Portland in August!
You ain't kidding, I'm a sucker for some shredding anyways. Will definitely give Tinariwen a listen. Fuck yeah, you gonna go see them? On a related note, are you familiar with Fela Kuti?
I am! Super good. But he's not a main listen of mine. Unfortunately my exposure to his music happened at a time of less than favorable nostalgia in my life.
For sure planning on seeing Tinariwen!
Es un transporte metro muy interesante..
The performance of cuckoo is really amazing. I could see how the crowds are cheering. It’s awesome!
I like classical music very much and whenever I feel sad I listen to this kind of music and my anxiety goes away.
