What does it mean to be a creative?

I've been thinking about the word creativity a lot recently. You see, as an adult I've only really considered myself A Creative very recently, having worked in software development for most of my career.

But in the last few years creating music has become more and more my focus and it suddenly hit me...

  • Am I a creative person now?
  • Was I not a creative person before?
  • What does it even mean to be creative?
  • For those who identify as A Creative, have you always known you were or is it something that came to you?
  • Is creating music on a modular synth particularly creative?
  • Is it possible to make music in a mechanical way without being creative?
  • Is that what I do?

So many questions - please share your thoughts Hive - I need answers!

And if you don't know much about the music I make and the modular synth I use, here's a bit of a surprise mini documentary about it that I've only just been able to share. It was recorded a few months ago for a student masters project...

You are definitely creative. We may have some similarities as I've been mostly technical, whilst messing with music on the side. What you do is outside how I think about music. I only started writing songs a few years back, but have done a lot now. I may even think about recording a second album.

That little documentary is cool. I love hearing about how people create.

Another post I’ve missed until now! Will watch the video later and likewise I’m in software development myself. It’s a challenge to balance things and I think being creative is as much about time management as anything else. Which reminds me I must do some more 3Speak videos etc.

Hi Nick great to hear from you - we should really meet up at some point!
And yes life is a constant balancing act challenge!
I'm afraid I've given up on 3Speak for the time being. Just too awkward to use/problem prone. I live the decentralised ideals - but as an artist with limited time I have to prioritise using tools with the best usability and possibility to connect. Still gonna be posting on hive though as I've met some great people here.

Good morning and yes, let’s organise a meet up. That’s a good point. I am also on Substack and YouTube plus others, SoundCloud etc as you know. Web3 is in its early stages but the majority of the world love their web 2 tools a lot more.
