Afritunes Week 151—WON KERE SI NUMBER WA BY FATAI ROLLING DOLLAR

A huge hello to everyone in this wonderful community where we come together to celebrate African music in all its forms. This is Afritunes Week 151, and the song that I have chosen to perform is a song that was trending quite a lot when I was younger. A very repetitive song with such a catchy tune and melody. The song is titled Won Kere Si Number Wa by Fatai Rolling Dollar.

I remember getting home after school and switching on the television later at night when NEPA decides to be benevolent enough to give us light. BCOS television station playing the song quite a lot then for a period of time.

The title 'Won Kere Si Number Wa' translates to the English language as “They cannot match us.” The song was a bit of statement to the fact that his generation and more specifically, him was above the younger generation trying to puff up themselves. There is a line in the song where he included one of his titles at the time—Seriki oni guitar—which translates to Leader of all guitarists.

All in all, this song is a very traditional pick, with a great rhythm that makes you move your body without realizing it and a melodious melody that is sweet to the ears. I will love this song till the day I die.
