Rising Star Stats Update + Reviewing IVE's new Single "Rebel Heart" (ESP - ENG)

Seguí mi jornada por Rising Star. A diferencia de la vez pasada, ya llegué a más de nivel 10 y pude realizar las misiones de "Midweek Headline Slot", lo que me daba mucha experiencia. Lo que sí no tuve en cuenta (y no sabía que existía), era el ego...
I kept playing Rising Star. This time around, I surpassed level 10 and managed to do the 'Midweek Headline Slot' quests, which provided a huge experience boost. However, I completely overlooked the concept of 'ego'—I had no idea it was even a thing!

So, in the meantime the mission is completed, why not make a single review? Today we are making a review of the new release from IVE, called "Rebel Heart".
Por supuesto, hay consideraciones sobre esta sección y el análisis que se hará para que no sea la típica "este tema me gustó 7/10".
Para analizarlos, escucharé no sólo la canción sino el álbum / single completo de donde esta haya salido. Esto me dará un margen mejor de análisis del artista y de la composición más que pensar solamente en una canción singular sin ningún tipo de conexto. La idea de este tipo de dinámicas es también identificar qué canción es buena para el álbum y cuales no lo son, o si es una canción floja pero no es necesariamente la canción principal del álbum, claramente la tendré en cuenta de una forma distinta.
Se analizará cada canción del álbum / single, y además, le daré un punaje a cada una, finalizando en un puntaje del álbum / single completo. Estos luego irán a un Excel donde tengo mis opiniones musicales formadas.
Sin nada más que decir, comencemos:
Of course, there are considerations about this section and the analysis that will be done so that it is not the typical ‘yeah I this track 7/10’.
To analyse them, I will listen not only to the song but to the whole album / single from which it came out. This will give me a better scope of analysis of the artist and the composition rather than just thinking about a singular song without any kind of connection. The idea of this kind of dynamic is also to identify which song is good for the album and which are not, or if it is a not so bad song but not necessarily the main song on the album, clearly I will think about it in a different way.
Each song on the album / single will be analysed, and in addition, I will give a score to each song, ending in a score for the whole album / single. These will then go into an Excel where I have my musical opinions formed.

IVE es un grupo femenino de 6 integrantes. Este grupo se forma de: Leeseo, Yujin, Woonyoung, Liz, Rei y Gaeul.
En sus comienzos en 2021, dos de sus miembros, Wonyoung y Yujin fueron informadas que debutarían en este grupo, después de haber pasado por su primer grupo, IZ*ONE. In its beginnings in 2021, two of its members, Wonyoung and Yujin, were informed that they would be debuting in this group, after having gone through their first group, IZ*ONE. That same year they debuted with the single ELEVEN, winning a total of 13 music shows, including a triple crown on Music Bank and being the most played song on YouTube Korea for 5 consecutive weeks.
From that moment on, their fame took off impressively, until they reached my ears in 2023 with their album I've IVE, composed of 11 songs, their title track I AM is currently one of my most listened to songs on Spotify.

La canción comienza con un ritmo bien marcado con una guitarra eléctrica, sin embargo, no es algo que no haya escuchado antes. Los primeros 30 segundos son el mismo ritmo salvo que se suma la percusión a mitad del primer verso, pero termina siendo la gran cosa. El build up sí me pareció curioso, y además se asoman versos en inglés, teniendo una idea de qué va la canción.
Primer estribillo no explota tan fuerte como suelen explotar las canciones de IVE usualmente, además de repetir la frase "We are rebels in our hearts" el 90% del mismo, lo cual no me gustó para nada. El segundo verso es una copia del primero, pero sí encontré una diferencia clave.
La segunda parte del segundo verso es la del build up, pero esta vez está siendo utilizada com "estribillo" o con el mismo ritmo que el mismo, y eso me pareció un recurso muy bien utilizado, enganchando directamente la frase mencionada con el ritmo de estribillo.
El puente es con una base un poco más electrónica, repitiendo la frase del estribillo. Seguido de una parte lenta, donde hay un espacio para las vocalistas del grupo. El puente culmina en el comienzo del último estribillo, que, nuevamente, repite una y otra vez la frase, finalizando la canción en esta misma frase pero con un tono de distorsión tanto en la música como en la vocal.
De esa manera termina la canción. Pienso que no fue la gran cosa. No se destacó mucho las vocales, ni la instrumental, pienso que fue un tiro seguro.
Puntaje: 5/10
The song begins with a well-marked rhythm with an electric guitar, however, it's not something I haven't heard before. The first 30 seconds are the same rhythm except for the addition of percussion in the middle of the first verse, but it ends up being the big deal. The build-up was curious to me, and English verses also appear, giving an idea of what the song is about.
The first chorus doesn't explode as strongly as IVE's songs usually do, and it repeats the phrase "We are rebels in our hearts" 90% of the time, which I didn't like at all. The second verse is a copy of the first, but I did find a key difference.
The second part of the second verse is the build-up, but this time it's being used as a "chorus" or with the same rhythm as the chorus, and I thought that was a very well-used resource, directly hooking the aforementioned phrase with the chorus rhythm.
The bridge has a slightly more electronic base, repeating the chorus phrase. Followed by a slow part, where there is space for the group's vocalists. The bridge culminates at the beginning of the last chorus, which, again, repeats the phrase over and over, ending the song on this same phrase but with a distorted tone in both the music and the vocal.
That's how the song ends. I think it wasn't that great. The vocals or the instrumentals didn't stand out much, I think it was a safe bet.

Esta fue mi reacción al single de IVE "Rebel Heart".
Honestamente para ser un single me parece bien, sin embargo, este single pretende ser la entrada de un full álbum y ahí ya no sé si da la talla. Me pareció una típica 3ra o 4ta canción de álbum pero no me pareció gran cosa. Siento que esta canción NO es la esencia de IVE.
Como había dicho con anterioridad, "I've IVE" seguramente es de los álbumes que más escuché estos últimos tiempos, y si bien las últimas canciones no terminan de convencerme, no quiere decir que hayan sido malas. Esta en particular sí siendo que se quedó muy corta si planea ser la cara al nuevo álbum. De serlo, espero que los Side-B sean los que reluzcan.
Eso ha sido todo por este post. Abajo dejaré mi excel donde dejo los álbumes y releases que escuché totalmente por completo (y me acuerde). ¡Tal vez en algunas cosas tengamos los mismos gustos! Nos vemos en el siguiente post :)
This was my reaction to IVE's single "Rebel Heart".
Honestly, for a single, I think it's okay, however, this single is intended to be the introduction to a full album and I'm not sure if it's up to the task. It seemed like a typical 3rd or 4th album track but nothing special. I feel like this song is NOT the essence of IVE.
As I said before, "I've IVE" is probably one of the albums I've listened to the most lately, and while the latest songs haven't quite convinced me, that doesn't mean they were bad. This one in particular, considering it fell short if it's planned to be the face of the new album. If so, I hope the B-sides are the ones that shine.
