Three Tune Tuesday - #ttt - The Midnight Special - week 217

Wolfman Jack was the announcer and sometimes host of the popular 90 minute long variety show called The Midnight Special, which ran from 1972 to 1981. The show aired, in my time zone, from midnight to 1:30 a.m.

Johnny Rivers recorded the theme song 'The Midnight Special', which was originally a folk song believed to have sprung from a train by the same name, that ran close to the Louisianna State Prison.

When the light from the train shined in the windows of the prison cells, it was said to give the prisoners hope and was a sign of good fortune and eventual freedom.

Since the show aired a long time ago, and I am older still, I caught many of the episodes. People tend to think the music of their own era was the greatest, and well..I'm no different.

No lip syncing, no auto tune, no flapping fannies, no flying cars, no fireworks, just talent so raw and so well honed that you knew it was gonna be special..Midnight Special.

In the late 70's disco came into being and the funk really hit the fan. A couple years later and the show was cancelled. Go figure!

My selections for Three Tune Tuesday are pulled from various episodes of The Midnight Special. There are so many to choose from, but these ladies never fail to impress. They're older now (and who isn't), but man, can they sing! Each of them appeared on the show many times.

Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson were a powerhouse duo, each with immense talent performing Crazy On You

Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon sung by Stevie Nicks

Lastly, a softer offering by Linda Ronstadt - Long, Long Time

When listening to the music of my youth, I am transported back to that young teen wearing cutoff shorts and halter tops, attending concerts when I could and living life with unfettered joy.

It's funny how one note or opening riff can bring back so many memories, even before the first word rings out.

Enjoy your day and listen to what brings you joy <3

Thanks to @ablaze for hosting Three Tune Tuesday

Can't she though? She's the younger sister and plays more than sing, although both are well versed on several instruments and both sing, Ann usually sings and Nancy plays.

I was impressed indeed. I love those kind of live shows. I just dont think it is such a thing on the tv anymore

Well that's really saying something! As a man of discerning tastes, you are one tough man to impress 😃. I'm grateful for your visit and I believe your own guitar skills are pretty impressive too. I do miss the live shows. MTV came along just about then, but it was a very poor substitute to live performance and I never really got into it.

(It's funny how one note or opening riff can bring back so many memories, even before the first word rings out.)I totally agree with you on this phrase, there are songs that make us remember pleasant moments and important people in our lives.

Ann and Nancy Wilson have long been the 'Heart & soul' of Heart. They were a local band bouncing between Seattle and Vancouver before they made it big. I had the privilege of seeing these talented sisters perform their hits back in April not long following Nancy's Cancer treatment and having endured a compound fracture of her arm. She could have cancelled the show at the Pacific Colosseum but Nancy insisted performing to their hometown crowd.
This may have been last show.
