Musical Monday: Frank Quintero (Spn / Eng)
Greetings on this Monday, October 6, 2025, a full moon day, or even a supermoon day, which means a beautiful sky (unless it rains), and October nights are always beautiful and romantic. And so, today I'm back to share with you another MUSICAL MONDAY, the wonderful musical initiative created by @eugelys, where we can bring our memories and musical experiences.

Throughout my life, I've been very fortunate to attend many concerts and musical events, as my family loved music. There were always vinyl records, cassettes, and CDs at home. I also constantly listened to music on the radio and later on various platforms. This allowed me to develop a love of music, even though I wasn't a musician. I remember that one of the artists whose concerts I frequently attended (we're talking about the 1980s) was FRANK QUINTERO, a unique and special Venezuelan musician whose songs form the soundtrack to the lives of millions of Venezuelans, myself included.

FRANK QUINTERO, along with many other Venezuelan musicians, formed an incredibly beautiful and prolific era in Venezuelan music, spanning the 70s and 90s; however, most of his success occurred in the 80s. I remember that during that time, he and his band toured the country a lot, allowing their fans to enjoy their music live. I believe I attended at least 8 FRANK QUINTERO concerts. As soon as I found out he was going to perform, I would gather together tickets and, obviously, ask my parents' permission to go. Additionally, I had the advantage of living two blocks from where the musical performances were held, so it was practically a stone's throw from my house.

I remember one concert in particular, it was in 1986. That day my boyfriend at the time, who later became my first husband, picked me up. We left feeling extremely happy; we thoroughly enjoyed the concert. There was an atmosphere of good vibes, harmony, something truly beautiful, and obviously the musical quality of FRANK QUINTERO and his band was top-notch. Everything was fine, everything was beautiful. However, when I returned I almost had a heart attack because I thought I saw ambulances, police, and a bunch of people milling around in front of my house, so I ran out to see what was happening. What happened was that a car driven by a drunk crashed into the house next to mine, destroying the entire front fence and knocking down one of the walls. Needless to say, the car ended up stuck inside one of the rooms of that house. The scare was enormous, and fortunately, no one was injured or killed, not even the drunk driver.

And for today, remembering FRANK QUINTERO, I want to share with you three songs, which are some of my favorites of his, three songs of love and heartbreak, where poetry and harmony come together to create beautiful gems, which still endure today, at least in my personal playlist. That said, let's look at the songs from my MUSICAL MONDAY.

Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
I'm starting this full moon MUSICAL MONDAY with the beautiful “SONG FOR YOU”, one of the first songs I heard by FRANK QUINTERO, and if I remember correctly it was in 1981 or 1982. It was played a lot on the radio stations in my city, and I was always humming it. This song is a beautiful ballad, where the guitar is the protagonist of the melody. The lyrics are beautiful, and they convey what was not expressed in time in a romantic relationship. It should be noted that it was a regular song at concerts; Frank Quintero always performed it, and if he didn't, the audience would shout for him to sing it. I loved it. Here is the video.

My second song is the beautiful, sweet, and unusual "LADY OF THE CITY." Although it predates the first song I presented, as it was released in 1976, I first heard it in the early 1980s when I began exploring Frank Quintero's discography. This song was also constantly on the radio, so I learned it quickly and hummed it constantly. The lyrics are sad, telling the story of a young farmer who fell madly in love with a girl from the city who was visiting the countryside on vacation. When the vacation ended, she returned to her city, never learning about the young man's love, but later, sadness killed him. It's a sad but beautiful song, and it was also a regular at concerts. Here I share the video.

And closing out this supermoon MUSICAL MONDAY, I'm sharing the beautiful "YA NO SOMOS LOS MISMOS". I think I've talked about this song before, but it's a very special song that helped me get over a breakup. This song talks about the reunion of a couple who realize they're no longer the same, and they can't reclaim what once united them. It's a very beautiful song, both lyrically and musically. Enjoy the video.
