Finishing up my first studio recorded song!
We just recorded and mixed for about 10 hours with a short dinner break. I’ve literally never done such difficult work in my life but the first song of the album is finally nearing completion.
Today we fixed the female vocals and almost finished fixing the bass, then I spent about 2 hours practicing the bass part, 5 hours mixing and adjusting reverb and some other effects. I think by Monday or Tuesday this will be ready to go out for additional mixing with a friend who is a bit more pro than we are.
On top of that we will continue recording parts for the 6th song on the album as well as the 8th.
So by the first week of August I am hoping songs #1, 6, 8 and 9 are complete and ready for mixing.
Then by the end of August I hope we can do songs #2, #3 and #4, leaving only #5 and #7 for early September.
But yo! This song sounds amazing!
I think our music is going to spread much faster once this is out. As much as I loved what we have been doing live, this is going to be much easier for people to understand.
I was thinking about releasing one single but now I’m wondering if we should do two because it seems like it’ll really get people coming to shows before the album comes out and get a lot more attention on it when it does come out.
This still feels so incredibly daunting but if we can finish our early August deadline, I know it’ll start feeling a lot more do-able.
Tomorrow we’ll get to work on finishing #6!
I’ve decided not to book any more shows in August aside from the one we will play towards the end of the month because I want to focus entirely on recording. I hope we can debut another song from the album at that show.
We’ve already played some version of most of the songs live before but there are two we haven’t shared at all yet. One I don’t think we will play live until the album is out but there’s one more I’d like to share as soon as possible, though it will need some arranging first.

Sounds like it's coming together. Making good use of a studio needs some experience, but it sounds like you are doing well. I'm sure the results will be well worth it.

That's impressive, congratulations! I remember when playing in bands, and having the dream of recording and album. The closest we came was a concert that was recorded live with really good mics and then mixed. That was cool. I think we even made a few CDs of it, mostly for ourselves, family and friends.
That's exactly what I did to make the pressure of a studio album less daunting. I put out a live album first so at least I'd have that even if I failed at the album album. It's nice friends were into it! Is the music still floating around online?
I don't think so. It was mostly covers anyway, so nothing to brag about. After that gig, we all went in separate directions since our time at the University was ending. Now, I only play jam sessions.
