ThreeTuneTuesday: Soundtracks

Hello music lovers! 🎡

It's been a while since my last #ttt post. And it's time for the next one.
Since I recently rewatched an old sci-fi movie a couple of days ago to bring back memories and get back into the scene, I decided to write something about the music (I used to have a CD at home with the music from the film, back when I still listened to it on CDs) from that movie.

Well, this movie is Johnny Mnemonic, based on a short cyberpunk story by William Gibson, starring Keanu Reeves as a courier who carries important information in his brain about a cure for a serious illness called NAS (nerve attenuation syndrome), which is caused by exposure to the virtual internet. And he has a lot going on. The film was directed in 1995 by Robert Longo, a director and artist.

It wasn't a hit, it's even been mentioned as one of Keanu Reeves' worst movies, but it has a cult status among fans of science fiction and especially cyberpunk (which includes myself :)). Because I thought the music was great, and I still do, and I've been listening to it in the car for a few days now, I bought the CD at the time.
I would like to highlight three songs:

Cop Shoot Cop - 3AM Incident

Cop Shoot Cop was an American noise rock band from New York, formed in 1987, disbanded in 1996, and best known for supporting Iggy Pop on his tours. They played this song, 3 AM Incident, many times at concerts, but it's supposedly released only on this soundtrack. Well, I didn't go and check it out, but I saw them live once, because of that song, and they played it.

Orbital - Sad But True

Orbital is a world-famous English duo of two brothers who are among the pioneers of electronic music, performing since 1986, releasing 10 studio albums and as many compilations, live sets and DJ mixes. I've also seen Orbital live once before.
This song is from their third album "Snivilisation", from 1994, with vocals by Alison Goldfrapp.

Stabbing Westward - Nothing

Stabbing Westward is an American industrial rock band, formed in 1985, had a hiatus from 2002 to 2016, and are now still playing. They were unknown to me until watching the film. They have released five albums, this song is from their first album Ungod from 1994.

That song from Orbital was pretty neat. I don't normally listen to electronica like that, but that was pretty cool.

Loved seeing a tune from Johnny Mnemonic! Man, I had forgotten about that movie.

I watch it again a week ago, the funny thing is that it happened in 2021. 😁

Orbital always worth a listen, they've some great stuff. Had not heard of the other two tunes you picked from the soundtrack and never heard of the movie either, I'll keep an eye out for it, although, I would not be a huge fan of Keanu Reeves - I find him a bit one dimensional, though I did like the Matrix movies and Point Break.

Stabbing Westward sound like they are worth checking out a bit more, that was a good tune.
