Hello music friends! 🎶

Friday's #newtunes, featuring a fresh music selection, is here.
Many songs are resonating in my ears, and I'm happy to share some with you. You may listen to some of it over the weekend and in the coming summer days while relaxing at the beach with a cool drink in hand. 🍻

Eight songs of different genres. Well-known and lesser-known musicians are fighting for our sound space. If I quickly skim through what I've chosen today, I hear it's all slow and summery. Is this a trend, or is it just me? I may be getting old.

Beatie Wolfe, Brian Eno - Suddenly

I'll start with Brian Eno, who I mentioned in my last #threetunetuesday post. Here's his latest album, Luminal, released in April this year, where he collaborates with Beatie Wolfe, a conceptual artist and climate activist. She is known to me for the Prix Ars Electronica 2024 Golden Nice Award for her work Smoke and Mirrors.
The song Suddenly is, as one follower put it, "like a warm blanket on a cold night."

Fever Ray - 'I'm Not Done' (Therapy Session)

Fever Ray, or Karin Dreijer, the Swedish singer, composer, and producer, surprises me again and again with her visualisations, which are extraordinary but also bizarre in a way. This latest remix of a song from 2009 is no exception.
Very polished electropop, in fact a group therapy of the characters from the 2023 album Radical Romantics.
I wonder if Björk inspires her/him, or is it just me?

Nilüfer Yanya - Where To Look

Nilüfer Yanya, a London-based musician I've been following since her 2016 debut with the song "Where To Look," announces her new EP, "Dancing Shoes," which will be released in early July. It's a romance, sure, but hopefully, we won't get bored as the years go by.

Van Morrison - Remembering Now

One of the living legends, Van Morrison, has just today released his 48th album in a row, with the same title. He is holding up well for his 79 years.

Rujen - Psychic Sister / Spider Silk

Rujen is a new band for me; they come from France. For a try with two songs, announcing their debut album, Velvet Dream, out next week.
Psychedelic space groove from the seventies, with a hint of nostalgia for those colourful times.

Lake Ruth - Potalaka Listening Station

Another new name for me. Lake Ruth is a trio from New York who released their third album, Hawking Radiation, last week. They've been together since 2015. Dreamy vocals backed by luxurious and elegant production. Retro baroque pop with a lot to listen to. I will follow them.

Grey Aura - Daken als kiezen

Grey Aura is a Dutch avant-garde post-black metal band. At the end of March, they released Zwart vierkant: Slotstuk, or in English Black Square: The Final Part, the follow-up to 2021's Zwart vierkant. The album is based on the novel "Black Square" by Ruben Wijlacker, which explores the deconstruction of physical reality through the lens of abstract art.
The song "Daken als kiezen," or "Roofs as choices" in English, with its dynamic rhythmic patterns, intertwining guitar riffs, and outstanding percussion and bass, gives us hope that one day we will emerge from the chaos into something new and of higher quality. Or so they say.

Yovie - Museum Fatigue (Live)

Yovie is an American experimental band from St. Louis, USA. They have been playing since 2001 and have released three albums, the last one in 2017. They are still active from time to time. I tracked the release of the album/EP Split from May this year, which features four recorded songs. The other part is the French duo Pili Coit.
They play complex, instrumental, improvised math rock based on rigid structures, internal discipline, and noise.
