three tune Tuesday: (less known) female vocalists
Over the long years of my passion for music, it became clear to me that this cake can be eaten from many different angles, there are so many interesting genres and directions to go. And I noticed that - in general - female vocals are more attractive to me than male ones; although of course I do not limit myself :) Today I would like to introduce you to three modern singers, whose name is less known, but each of them has amazing vocals and creates interesting music. Worth your attention! So: Nadine Shah, Sharon Kovacz, Caro Emerald.
Sharon Kovacs - Bang Bang
Currently this is my last love. And thanks again to YouTube, who slipped me this video one fine day (maybe it was YT AI reaction to me listening a lot of Nina Simone?...). This is a song from Kowacs last, third album (2022; in this case, my acquaintance began right from the end). The song struck me to the depths of my soul - more with the vocals, that with the visuals. The first impression you get is that it's a vocal of a black woman, and of course associations with Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith come to mind ...
For a whole week I sat at my office and did not listen to anything except this artist, listened to all the videos YouTube could offer, and quickly matured to download all available releases from the Internet and save them for use at any time.
Sometimes I am satisfied with the music itself and I am not at all interested in the context associated with its author, but not this time. I was extremely interested in the personality of this Dutch singer, whom the music press called the "wolf woman" ... during the early tours she performed and seemed to live at all, without removing her characteristic fur hat with long ears from her shaved head. One night, I stuck to her Facebook page and dug, dug, dug ...
Okay, I will not retell you the story of my relationship with Kovacs. This gorgeous woman with gorgeous vocals, and a super team of backing musicians who are obviously her longtime friends, makes many of the artistic decisions herself. For me, this is a wonderful, expensive example of honest "music from that side" - as opposed to "music product created by the hands of PR managers" i.e. thumb-sucked. This one is first grade. Highly recommended!
Caro Emerald - Liquid lunch
Again Nederland, again jazz, again female vocals. Coincidence? Probably not
xD
After I fall in love with this artist, I started noticing she is getting some playback on radio, so probably you might have heard about her, maybe this name is not so less-known as I might think.
Caro Emerald is an amazing woman with a radiant charisma...with a charisma of this size, you can do anything! No dark undertones or undersides of life... but of course there's drama too: lipstick on my lover's collar, a hangover after a night at the casino, and so on and so forth. Of course, I am attracted not by the theme of her songs, but by the performance, arrangements .... performance is everything! (I will note in brackets the high skill of the accompanying musicians in her team). It hardly makes sense to explain something about her; watch the video of the performance from the Montreux Jazz Festival, what more explanation do you need? this video is self-explanatory... and yes, live some of her hits sound even better than the studio versions (this adds to her characterization as a musician plus a lot)). I love not just listening, but watching recordings of her performances.
Just in case, check the studio version of the song and official video, it's funny... but the live version is still much better!
Nadine Shah - Runaway
From her 1st album 'Love Your Dum And Mad'. The case when I think I found out about the artist by accident, just listening to the latest releases. I listened to the first two albums at the time of their release, (and saw reviewer comparisons in the music press - "new pj harvey", "diamanda kalas"), after the second album my enthusiasm waned, but from time to time I return with great pleasure to her first child. Very often it happens that the first album is "the best".
Nadine Shah is an English singer of ethnic origin, with an unusually dark, viscous vocals and manner of singing ... and dark themes of the songs. Watch this video (what a coincidence, again black and white visuals: a girl wanders through urban landscapes and unwinds a ball: the thread of her fate? an allusion to the intricate trajectory of life situations? you decide for yourself). An excellent, characteristic example of her work, for which I love her.
In my opinion these are a rare exception to the overall rule 'They don't do it like that anymore! Lucky we. The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Previous issues: 106 | 107

💃💃💃🍹🍹🍹
A great selection, with the first tune, I was expecting the song from Kill Bill. I also like Caro Emerald but havent heard this song in a while. You are right, she screams charisma and brings the song to life live. It has been a while since I had a liquid lunch, those were the days.. I remember sometimes we would turn it into a liquid afternoon too! lol
"It has been a while since I had a liquid lunch,' ahaah! !LOLZ 😄 me too.... nowadays I dont consume too much alcohol, only a glass of red wine with !PIZZA, or few sips of cognac - not enaf for the head to suffer, so this song is totally not actual for me. But that doesnt stop me from enjoying it ☘️
(Was Nadine's name new to you?..)
Same here, but I have good memories! :D
The last song was new to me. :)

These were all amazing selections..Sharon Kovacs' Bang Bang reminds me so much of cardi B's careful. Kovacs really has amazing vocals. Caro Emerald is another amazing artist and liquid lunch is definitely being added to my playlist. Glad you shared these tunes.

I have not heard about Nadine Shah before...
I'll check her out and I'm sure I'd love her
You have shared so many good songs with us I will definitely sit down and listen to them tomorrow as the first song I heard is very good.
Thanks for sharing your recommendations for lesser-known female singers. I'm always looking for new music to listen to, and I'm intrigued by the artists you mentioned.
I've never heard of Sharon Kovacs before, but I'm definitely going to check her out. Her vocals sound amazing, and I love the fact that she's involved in the artistic decisions for her music.
I'm also familiar with Caro Emerald, but I haven't listened to her in a while. I'll definitely revisit her music and check out her live performances.
O, I dont search for new music since late 2000-es -- nowadays it finds me itself xD
Have a !BEER, and Hive on, with or without new music 😎 (but with good music it feels better, right?)

.o my god! TDK, BASF... where are these?
If your question is non-rhetoric -- I keep all of them at my parent's flat. Did not drop to the trash not a single one... but, uhm, probably the tapes are degraded by now, as nobody playback them since.. early 2000-es (which is bad for the tape, as far as I've heard). TDK was my fave brand at the time, but I did not restricted myself to it. I always was a fan of diversity, and attracted by the nice design, hehe
Have a Hive !BEER, my friend 😨 the epoch have gone by now...
