ThreeTuneTuesday - Goodfellas
Hello Hive Music Lovers!,
Welcome to another #threetunetuesday created originally by @ablaze.
After a spell in Italy last week, this week we go back in time to New York in an Italian-American neighborhood in the film Goodfellas. This is an old gangster film that has some great tunes in it and I will share 3 of them today.
But first, for those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday.... to quote @ablaze :
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.
The first song is instantly memerable with the film with the legend Ray Liotta who sadly passed away last year. It is the great opening line where he says, "ever since as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster." and then the song starts.
It is a great tune by Tony Bennett that I will always remember with this film. Ray Liotta was great to watch here and played a wise guy very well. I have also read the book that it is based upon, but cannot remember too much about it now. I think it was quite a good read though.
A memorable song from the film for me was The Shangri-Las - Leader of the Pack. Although it does not make it to my top 3 today, even though I think it is a great song.
Second on my list for today is instead Derek & The Dominoes with the outro from the brilliant Layla song. Here in the film De Niro decides to start whacking the gang who made the big robbery with him because he decided that why should he share the loot when he can just whack the others and keep it all for himself. I'm sure there is a lesson in there somewhere.
The full Layla song is pretty epic as you can hear here and gives me totally other connotations than from the piano exit where I have images of an Italian mobster hanging in a meat truck frozen to death.
The final tune is by Mick Jagger. I've not been a huge fan of many of Mick's tunes but I really like the guitar rift in this one. It has got to be one of the top and most memorable guitar riffs.
The winner from last week's 5 LEN token giveaway was @melinda010100 Congratulations!
GIVEAWAY - WIN 5 LEN TOKENS
For a chance to win 5 LEN tokens, all you need to do is write in the comments your favorite tune (if any). The winner will be drawn randomly and announced next week.
Happy musical Tuesday everyone, thanks for listening.

haha could be yeah! lol Looking forward to seeing your post later.
😂it's ok it prob gonna be Korean or Chinese I forget where I'm at
The first song sounds a lot like what I'll listen to when I'm in a certain mood. I kinda like it too. Haha
Yeah, it is one to listen to when you are in a certain mood. Thanks for checking them out.
The first songs tune sounds a bit like a Christmas song.
This is the first time I'm listening to Mick Jagger and although it's just my opinion....
It's not all that😭😂😂
I guess I'm not a rock fan after all...
The guitar is nice though ✨👍
The piano in the Derek and Dominoes song is quite calming...
I guess that would be my best tune here🥺
I think yeah, it could be enjoyed around Christmas time.
I love the guitar riff on that one with Mick Jagger, but usually he sounds like he is shouting alot in his songs, but here is pretty good i think. :)

I've never seen Goodfellas all the way through. I have also never seen any of the Godfather movies. I noticed they were on the other day, but I was at work and who has time for that! Great songs though! I love the original version of Layla. I actually prefer it over the unplugged version that gets played on the radio so much.
Yeah they do take some time to watch through, and you must watch Goodfellas though, it is a classic. Far better than Scorcese's later films. Layla is a great tune, super that it is much longer than you average song these days, they were having some good fun I think with making it.
Yeah, I know I need to watch at least that one. Especially now that it is even more of a classic!
Layla, of course! 😎
A good choice 🙂
for me the best tune would be Layla vocal version , the others don't do that much for me .
but i do prefer the Clapton version....
It is a good version and I like it too.
Layla, the second version! It’s epical, yes, and gives me good vibes.
Tony Bennett’s one takes me back to the 50s. I liked it, too.
Thanks for the music! 🎼🎶🎵

I have seen Goodfellas so many times but to be honest I didn't pay as much attention to the soundtrack. I remember some of the music but not in detail. I also read Wiseguys, the book on which the movie is based. It was good but I like the movie better.

Yeah, Steve!
I've seen The Jersey Boys (Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) both on stage and movie.
I like the movie because you can do so much more with it than on stage.
If you like the music from that era at all you should watch it. The story is great too. And Clint Eastwood directed the movie.
I was a kid when most of their music was popular but I just really like it.
Have a great Friday and the rest of the weekend!

Tony Bennet is my favorite out of these, somehow it makes me dreaming, I see more and more those old swing little jazzy styled songs rising in my favorites lists :-)

Very good post. The three songs are great, as well as others included in that soundtrack. Layla is superb.
Thank you for checking them out. I love the Layla song too.
Goodfellas is such a great movie. I like all the pieces on the soundtrack, but my favorite is the first one, the one by Tony Bennett.
I really like it too. The first song is a great tune. :)
That Jagger song does have a Beggar's Banquet feel to it, which does give it some saving grace.
Layla - and Cocaine - were two of the songs in the jukebox in a restaurant we used to go to in high school. That was my first introduction to Layla, and it brings good memories, so thanks for sharing that one.
And yeah, RIP Ray Liota.
Those are both two very great memorable songs. The second one I am sure quite controversial! RIP Ray Liota, he had such a great on screen presence.
Thanks for checking out my tunes.
I was wondering why you sent me these much loved LEN tokens! Thanks so much!
I've never been much of a Stones fan, but I did have an opportunity to see them in preform in the 90s and I fell in love with the energy they put into their show!
Congratulations on winning. I feel the same about the Stones, they do seem to put on a great show, although I have never seen them live.
I go for Layla. That's a nice one.
Thanks for checking them out, it is a great tune.
Marvellous classics! It's always worth going back to the foundations of today's music:)
I would lie if I said I have favourite song, I have thousands! :D
How about classics, but in new, fresh light?
I feel the same way, i love hearing new cool tunes. Classics in a fresh light is also good, i do love hearing new takes on some great songs, like this one (also Led Zepplin LOL)
Classic movie, and an old favourite, I have seen it a good four or five times and if its on the telly and I flick on that channel it's on, I'll always stop and watch for a while, very well put together. Ray Liotta was brilliant in it.
Yep, quality riff for shizzle, jesus the standard is high this week, 4 posts in from 43 and all 4 honourable mentions!
Thanks ablaze! 43 entries! #ttt is really taking off!!!
