3 Rock bands from my city

I make this post inspired by the #TTT made yesterday by @edwardstobia, I know it's not the right day for this topic, but I felt inspired to share 3 bands from my city because I lived quite intensely the golden years of rock in my city, Maracay and Venezuela in general. Until about 10 years ago there was still a very active rock scene, but the economic and political situation of the country was gradually deflating those who dared (despite how unprofitable it is) to form a band, but that is something that does not come to place, what matters here are the bands that I want to share with you.

I have been going to concerts since I was about 13 years old, the first one was a pretty big one in which the Colombians Aterciopelados performed along with other local bands and from there my interest in rock and concerts grew. Little by little I got to know bands from my city and I must say with great pride that many bands of a good level emerged, they were even able to record some good videos and quality albums, but what made me most proud was to have shared the stage with some of them. There are many bands that I know of Maracay, but for the moment I will present 3 of them, in the future I will share many more.

I am going to start with one of the first Progressive Metal bands I heard in this country, this genre is usually complex in terms of technique and musical timing, but despite that these guys managed to put together a good proposal and although many thought that the inspiration that Sexto Sonar had was very close to the music of Dream Theater, they still managed to make a respectable space for themselves in the local scene. I saw them live on several occasions and I must say that they did it quite well, without a doubt their musicians knew what they were doing and with a very good technical level. The song “Visiones” is the one I like the most of them, I hope you enjoy it.

The next band could receive the title of legendary in my city and even in Venezuela, EPITAFIO emerged in the early 90's with a very well elaborated Death Metal and with a unique style, their musicians have always been very good technically and in addition to that they had the opportunity to record songs with good quality. Rodnie's voice (whom I knew personally since my band rehearsed in a studio that belonged to him) is very powerful and ideal for the style they practice, he always led this band with very good esteem and has little to envy to many international bands.

Finally, I present to you Torkhe, a band that I could rarely see live, but I could see the great potential they had with their Industrial Metal and unique style, I think no other local band was similar to them in terms of style and that's why they had a small success that was enough to perform in important events in the city. Although they had a short presence in the scene, they managed to make an important place in the history of local rock, many of us still remember them and thanks to YouTube we can listen to some of their most iconic songs.

There are still many more bands to present, so in the coming weeks I will be sharing more local bands that managed to make at least a small name in a scene that was constantly growing until one day everything began to decline, but still the good experiences and memories remain.

It's very interesting to read stories about the rock scene in Maracay! It's nice to see that there are people who still remember and appreciate local bands that were once successful. Hopefully rock music there can grow again! My brother @musicandreview

I would love to see local rock bands growing again, I would gladly go to support them every time they perform. I still fondly remember those good times.

Undoubtedly before there was a great metal scene in the country, and Maracay was the mecca of good concerts, at some point I got to go to many national and international concerts. On the other hand of Sexto Sonar I remember seeing them like 2 times and they were a tremendous band and of Epitafio I had an old cassette of one of their first demos and they were brutal, I always said that they were the Death band of Venezuela. Maybe I take from your inspiration to talk a little bit about music for today. Greetings !

If you have an Epitafio cassette then you are old school haha. I think that before there was more exposure for those who dedicated themselves to form a band, there were a lot of gigs so the possibilities to show yourself were higher and so many became known.

I think it's great that you were inspired by this post, I'll go check what you shared.

Ah wonderful golden years of youth, in my case I went to guillmanfest among others and it was crazyX haha, once I was scammed in one of those concerts and in the end it remained as an anecdote because we were several and then at the university we did not tell anyone so they would not make fun haha

WoW Sexto Sonar with inspiration in Dream Theater, yes metal is complex and more if the inspiration is a band like that with even more complicated rhythms and extensive songs outside the typical 3 minutes .... or at least for me it's like that haha

hahaha Good thing I have the headphones because I would have scared my mom with Epitaph 😱😱

Good suggestions to listen thanks to the good lord youtube where are the videos of these bands, the success this post and the future suggestions that you will bring us muchachon 😎

It's true, you have to listen to Epitafio with headphones to scare anyone haha. In those times many bands made very good music, original and of good level, it seemed a kind of golden generation, but well, we already know what happened later.

I will bring more bands from my city in future posts. Thanks for the support!
