University life is a time of personal growth and expansion, both in terms of education and friendships. It is a time when we form connections and affinities in many aspects of life, such as the arts, writing, music, painting, and other areas. It is a time when we forge friendships that often last a lifetime, even when we are far apart. We always keep in touch with those people who were an important part of our lives.

A few days ago, some friends were showing their notebooks from certain classes. Imagine, many, many years ago. We called these notebooks “the bible” because they contained everything the professors said, down to the last semicolon. They were passed from hand to hand. Watch out! Anyone who scribbled in them or removed a page was blacklisted for life. Just like on #Hive, the list of those who plagiarize. Exactly!

The jokes, anecdotes, and songs that, when I hear them, turn on my time machine. Friends with beautiful voices, some of them devoted themselves to music. Among them: Francisco preferred Frank Quintero and the Cuban Pablo Milanes, and loves the song “Yolanda.” Luis likes Gualberto Ibarreto, Luis Mariano, and bagpipes. Miguel's favorites are Yordano and Franco de Vita. Jesús Avis sang the songs of Gilberto Santa Rosa, and many others whose names I don't remember.

My friend Manuel Caricuao recited “Los zapatitos me aprietan y las medias me da calor...” (“My shoes are too tight and my socks are too hot...”), a Venezuelan children's poem. He was one of the comedians in the group. Because, like everything else, we always remember those who made us laugh.

“Los quema cauchos” (The Tire Burners) conducted a survey and asked if we had studied. If the majority decided that they hadn't, the gate was closed early on Monday so that the teachers coming from Maturín couldn't get in. They claimed that there was no water on the university campus over the weekend. I'll keep these names to myself. OMG! What will their grandchildren think of their saintly grandparents?

On the 28th, Engineer's Day was celebrated in Maturín, where certificates were awarded and Jusepin's friends delighted the audience with their songs. My dear Luis performed, as always, songs by Gualberto Ibarreto. He is a Venezuelan singer-songwriter and musician from the eastern part of the country, originally from the town of El Pilar. Since he started in 1973 at a festival at the ULA, where he won first prize with the song “Cerecita” by Luis Mariano Rivera, his baritone voice began to be heard on all the radio stations in the country.

He has had a successful career, and is currently in poor health. I met him years ago when I visited with a group of students who were participating in a visit to the Guanota experimental station of the Universidad de Oriente, located in Caripe. From there, we traveled to Carúpano, as we were going to meet Luis Mariano Rivera in Canchunchu. These two figures are the leading representatives of music from the eastern part of the country. We spent an unforgettable afternoon.
The first song that brought him success was written by José Ramón Villarroel and is called “María Antonia.”

Today I bring you three songs performed by Gualberto Ibarreto to share this week on #TreeTuneTuesday with my friend @ablaze. And to pay tribute to this singer of the Venezuelan people, who remains in my heart.

La vida universitaria es la etapa de compenetración y expansión de las personas, tanto en la educación como en las amistades. En esta logramos conexiones y afinidades en muchos aspectos de la vida, tales como: las artes, escritura, música, pintura y otras áreas. En esta consolidamos amistades que la mayoría de las veces perduran en el tiempo, aun cuando se está lejos. Siempre estamos pendientes de esas personas que fueron parte fundamental de nuestra vida.
Hace unos días unos amigos mostraban sus libretas en el grupo de algunas materias. Imagínense ustedes, hace muchos, pero muchísimos años. A estos cuadernos les decíamos “la biblia”, porque escribían todo lo que decían los profesores, con punto y coma. Estos iban pasando de mano en mano. ¡Cuidado! De aquel que lo rayara o quitara una hoja. Era anotado en una lista negra para toda la vida. Así como en #Hive, la lista de los que hacen plagio. ¡Tal cual!.
Los chistes, anécdotas y las canciones que al escucharlas encienden mi máquina del tiempo. Amigos con voces hermosas, algunos de ellos se dedicaron a la música. Entre ellos: Francisco, prefería a Frank Quintero y el cubano que Pablo Milanes, ama la canción “Yolanda”. A Luis le gustan Gualberto Ibarreto, Luis Mariano y las gaitas. A Miguel, sus preferidos son Yordano y Franco de Vita. Jesús Avis, cantaba las canciones de Gilberto Santa Rosa y así muchos otros que no recuerdo sus nombres.

“Los quema cauchos”, que hacían una encuesta y preguntaban si habían estudiado, si la mayoría decidía que no, se cerraba el portón tempranito el lunes para que no entraran los profesores que venían de Maturín. Alegando que no hubo agua el fin de semana en el campo universitario. Estos nombres me los reservo. ¡OMG!, Qué pensaran sus nietos de sus santos abuelitos.
El 28 se celebró el día del ingeniero y en Maturín, entregaron certificados y los amigos de Jusepin deleitaron con sus canciones y mi querido Luis, interpretó como siempre a Gualberto Ibarreto. Este es un cantautor y músico venezolano de la zona oriental del país, oriundo de la población de El Pilar. Desde que inició en el año 1973, en un festival en la ULA, donde ganó el primer premio con la canción “Cerecita" de Luis Mariano Rivera, su voz de barítono, comenzó a escucharse en todas las emisoras de radio del país.
Ha tenido una trayectoria exitosa, y en la actualidad, está delicado de salud. Lo conocí hace años cuando visité junto a un grupo de estudiantes, que participábamos en una visita a la estación experimental de la Guanota de la Universidad de Oriente, ubicada en Caripe. Desde allí, viajamos a Carúpano, pues íbamos a conocer a Luis Mariano Rivera en Canchunchu. Estos dos personajes son máximos representantes de la música del oriente del país. Pasamos una tarde inolvidable.
La primera canción que le dio el éxito es de José Ramón Villarroel y se llama “María Antonia”.
Hoy les traigo tres canciones interpretadas por Gualberto Ibarreto para compartir esta semana en #TreeTuneTuesday con el amigo @ablaze. Y rendir homenaje a este cantor del pueblo venezolano, que se quedó en mi corazón.

Music and more music

Sometimes we need to remember to cheer up our souls and smile at the crazy things we did in our youth. Cycles come to an end, but the magical moments we experienced with family and friends remain. As college students, in addition to training to become professionals, we also forge bonds of friendship and love. I am grateful to life for having brought good-hearted, humble, yet generous people into my life who were there for me when I needed them.

Today I remember them as if they were right here with me, in front of the JH-7 residence, and there they are, my friends, around the campfire, entertaining us with songs and jokes. This time it's Luis Junior and Gualberto Ibarreto's turn. Among their songs are: La Cata, El Calamar, El Ladrón de tu Amor, among others. First place goes to the song “Presagio.” This song was released in 1975 on the album El Cantor de la Voz del Pueblo. It is a song by Enrique Hidalgo.

Algunas veces necesitamos recordar para alegrar el alma y sonreír de las locuras que hicimos en la juventud. Se cierran los ciclos, pero quedan los momentos mágicos que vivimos con la familia y los amigos. La vida de un estudiante universitario, además de formarnos como profesionales, también consolidamos lazos de amistad y de amor. Agradezco a la vida por haber puesto en mi camino a personas de buen corazón, humildes, pero generosas, que en su oportunidad estuvieron a mi lado.
Hoy los recuerdo como si estuvieran junto a mí, frente a la residencia JH-7, y ahí están los amigos en el centro de la fogata deleitando con canciones y chistes. En esta oportunidad le toca a Luis Junior y Gualberto Ibarreto. Entre sus canciones encontramos: La Cata, el Calamar, el ladrón de tu amor, entre otras. El primer lugar es para la canción “Presagio”. Esta canción fue lanzada en el año 1975, en el álbum: "El Cantor de la voz de Pueblo". Es una canción de Enrique Hidalgo.
Se las dejó para que conozcan la música oriental de mi país.

This song is one of my favorites because it talks about forgiveness and accepting mistakes. The novel marked an era, but the theme was the best part of that novel. It was the main theme of a very famous soap opera in Venezuela, known as Leonela.
