Is there anybody out there?
I would like to start a new community here on Hive. A place dedicated to rock, metal and alternative music. There is already a community called Heavy Metal, but it is now dead. There is this Music community, but it is too generic, and the most interesting posts get lost in the mass.

Me and my brother. I'm trying to get him here too
I don't know what to say, nor how to proceed... I think there aren't enough interested people here now for this type of community. Or even if there were, it is really difficult to reach every corner of Hive with the news of this new space and thus be able to gather all those that are interested.
The alternative for now would be to continue posting on Music while I work on gathering people from the web2 and bringing them to Hive somehow. I wish there was a way to filter the posts that I could find interesting in this community, because I admit, sometimes it is tiring and alienating to scroll through hundreds of posts looking for that alternative that really captures my interest.
Maybe creating a dedicated community, with the ability to also curate the best content, is more of a long-term goal. Also because in the meantime I have to learn and better understand how to set up, moderate and make an active and valuable community thrive.
If you've been following me for a while, you may have noticed my posts in the "The dark side" format. And even though I invite those who read to propose their own version, to talk about alternative music, no one has tried yet.
Anyway, from now on I will use my personal profile (not Harbiter) on Instagram and Tiktok to try to be a music influencer and talk about news in the music field. And from there, gradually gaining popularity (I hope) I will invite new people to Hive, people united by the passion for this music. They will probably all be Italians, since the contents that I will bring will be spoken in Italian. It doesn't matter. I do it because in Italy metal and rock are still very badly seen, covered in rust by a generation of old people who reject the new and do gatekeeping and poser shaming.
If you are a lover of alternative music, or even just rock music that isn't covered in a 20 years layer of dust, let's keep in touch. I will try to be more active and use my work as a music influencer on the web2 to transfer that content here on Hive in the form of a blog, and having people interested in that sort of content, engaging, sharing and making their own is what we need to build this.
I already know some people here that could be interested, but I don't wanna tag them, because it has to be a natural thing, spreading organically. But if you know someone who's into this, tag them, share these thoughts with them. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, let me know in the comments.
I would consider my band KALDERA to be alternative. Ive only shared our calmest songs here on hive so far. But we get heavy and i prefer edgy music personally. So i would be interested in a community like this and would join. I do think it is tricky to gather members to a community. But id say worth the try.
I'm so happy to see all this engagement and commitment! You guys are giving me the strength and confidence to do it 😁😎🤘🏻
Just spotted this, @mynewlife made a music video for a hardcore/ alt band. I’d say this would fit in this new community.

Ah thanks for ping me , next time when I'll share it I will use this community
I think there is a very small audience in this area. The focal point is to think of a dedicated community, but in the end there would be little engagement. In my opinion it might be a good idea to consider doing a community of interviews with bands, famous or new. Create material, not just give a personal review on a song or album. That would remain a personal exercise that would bring only a few likes. If, on the other hand, you create content such as interviews/podcasts on hive, It would be like making a fanzine. A self-production that could bring more users from web 2. Enrich with photos and various material. It would also be a great opportunity for new bands and artists.
Thoughts?
That's also my intention. The best way to bring new people in and spread the word is by showing to artists that there's value to be built here for them, so they can share the space with their fans. It's a hard work getting to that point, I'm already dedicated to my own music project in the free time from my daily job. Adding this on top it's hard for me, but I'll try, because it's my passion and my life meaning
I'm out there :)
I'm into Rock, Metal and Alt! Also many related music genres.
Interesting that you featured Poppy in this post. I covered her twice in the last year in my daily actifit posts. In fact one of those times was about this exact same song/video! https://peakd.com/hive-193552/@kenny-crane/actifit-kenny-crane-20240605t050146041z
The other time I was talking about how Poppy was a replacement singer for Titanic Sinclair's music projects when he dropped Mars Argo. https://peakd.com/hive-193552/@kenny-crane/actifit-kenny-crane-20240626t060114083z The song I used in this post is by Mars Argo and doesn't fit in Rock/Metal/Alt but she has done some of that in the past.
Anyway... Probably a third of my posts are about music. https://peakd.com/@kenny-crane/posts
But I vary the genre a lot, because although I love Metal, not every one does. So it would be cool if there was a Rock/Metal/Alt community on here, specifically for these types of music, where I could read others' posts and probably write some of my own!
Thanks for your feedback! I'm so glad to hear this and I've read some of your posts.
But I have to say something, I usually don't pay attention to the actifit posts because I thought they were just simple posts talking about running or similar. I find it strange to use them to talk about music, I don't get it 😅 I think the title of a post is really important to catch attention, especially here on Hive where we don't have a strong visual hook.
Also having many people posting actifit stuff talking about anything, there's still that "filtering" problem. How could I ever know if an actifit post contains something that I'm musically interested in?
Hive is not outside from the "catching people attention" rules we can find in the traditional medias.
But this is just how I see things here, maybe I'm wrong 😅
You're right about actifit posts! They are supposed to be about what you did to get your activity number and may also contain pics of things you saw as you got your activity. But I use an older phone for actifit and it doesn't allow pics to be added to posts anymore.
So I start my posts with video YouTube video reviews which I have been doing for almost 20 years now. I was an early adopter of YouTube and made a blog about it, which I switched over to here when I found it. The embedded video becomes my post's thumbnail. Then the end of my post is some words about my activity which is often very similar since I follow a fitness routine.
On here, there are different ways to find/filter what you want to see. I sometimes click on the #music tag which I use a lot, to see what others are writing about music. Or if I use a tag of a specific musician or band, I'll click that and see who else is writing about them.
A more specific music community also will help us see the kinds of posts we may want to see. Tag me if you get something going or just want to discuss further!
Sure I do! And I'll give more attention to your posts too 😊
I am not really a fan of communities that are too general, like Music, as you will struggle to find the stuff you like. I have created some, like Drumming, that are more focused. The issue on Hive is that there are not always enough active people to make a specialised community really work, but even if it is just a few people for now you have something to build on.
I've not looked, but I expect FB may have groups dedicated to metal in Italian that can get hundreds of posts, but they have billions of users.
Recruiting new Hivers can be hard, but it is helpful to be able to point them at communities for their interests. I think the main aim should be to get people on board and work with them to build communities.
We have a few Italian musicians here already. I think that all languages should be represented.
!BEER
Music groups on FB are useless. I've been in dozens from all over the world. Groups with 1k and 100k people, they're all the same. Just a bunch of musicians sharing their own music, or music enthusiast sharing what they like, and none of them is getting even 1 like. The engagement there is below zero.
I've been in some for specific bands that are not too bad. Managing a huge group is not easy. We can explore new options here. If we could persuade a few communities to move over then it would make a big difference.
If you need accounts creating for people then I can help.
I'd say go for it, communities may grow and you have to start somewhere. Nothing wrong with the crosspost I would say to drive some people from the 'normal' socials to hive.
Love heavy music. Often dark techno, but originally coming from the NYHC here. Not too much melody for me haha
The hardest part is to start, but it's also the most important 😁 I'm seeing ibterested people here so the day could be closer than I thought
Communities here are a tough thing to run. Just reading the comments here, it would be a case of going out chatting to people about hive, the community you’ve started and getting them onboard. That’s the problem with hive, but a good way of sorting it out a bit will be the formation of new communities, new people who can learn about and interact with the community and what hive is all about.
Once they get it, they’ll be talking to other people and hopefully establish a network effect.

Hey guys - I founded the music community here and thrilled to see you - my background is Metal / Hard Rock from ages ago - I then found the love to Techno in the 1990ies - been a DJ and love any genre (or respect any genre lol).
I think your idea is a good one - I also tried to organize via tags such as #RockClassics #TechnoFriday #MondayTrance #DiscoTuesday #HouseWednesday #RapThursday #DanceWeekend and more -that was before we had communities on the blockchain.
I love my community, sometimes I think it becomes a bit too broad, sometimes i feel i see only one stye - and we have other music communities here as well with supprt by big guns.
Hope you will succeed - let me know once your started your community and will join for sure - music is key for mankind so I will support. And assuem many others as well such as @slobberchops (he has a good one) and @steevc to name only two of the Brits.
Thank you for your support 😊
