Things I've said

Music is well said to be the speech of angels.

- Thomas Carlyle -

Last week I wrote about using music to say things I sometimes felt incapable of saying, using it to convey my emotions my words might inadequately describe. I thought I'd stay on a similar theme this week as well, with a twist.

Today, I'm sharing music with titles of things I've said in various times and to assorted people in my life; all of them are things I've said multiple times and will say again in different situations.

"Got your six," means, I've got your back, that I'm looking out for you, something I've said (and done) on occasion with a select group of people. It's a military phrase, directions are often referred to as points on a clock face when in relation to a person where twelve is front, three is right, nine is left and six is to the rear obviously, the other numbers are also referred to. The phrase has made its way from there into general usage in some circles and one never says it without meaning it and unless one is prepared to do what's required to actually watch someone's back, be there for them.

I've used Five finger death punch above, simply because I don't know anyone else who has done a song titled Got your six and I love this song.

"Every rose has its thorn," isn't the most sage piece of wisdom one can give out however it's certainly true and I've said it now and then. Good things can come from adversity is what it means and it can relate to people also...humans are complicated beings and none of us are perfect, we're fallible and flawed but despite that we can still have something valid to offer. Like the rose, beautiful to behold and fragranced, but thorned, so can humans be and none of us are without our flaws.

Here, I decided to go with the Miley Cyrus version of the track rather than the original version by Poison. They are both good, I just like the newer version a little better despite being around when the original was released and liking it a lot.

"I need you,"...Hmm, need or want? I guess that depends on the situation and one's perspective. I've said both though, obviously to very special people, and have received favourable responses fortunately. I never said it in a way that indicated dependency though, just love and desire and a deep-seated need to be close to that person because they made me feel more complete within myself, a need to be a part of something greater than myself.

This track is by Tim McGraw featuring his wife, Faith Hill I like it a lot and have seen it performed live which was pretty special; these two obviously get it.

That's it this week, three songs with titles matching things I've said and will say again. Are there any tracks you know of with titles that replicate things you say often? Feel free to share them and, if you actually listened to the tracks above, feel free to comment on them also, if you're so inclined.

Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default; tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind - galenkp

Music can express things in life we contemplate yet never have the right words to express, yes people are complicated.

There was a new transition in government yesterday in Nigeria.

This song says it all.
Holy Holy - 2Baba
The leader we all wanted wasn't voted in, there was religious cleric who prophesied that the good guy will win, but alas, the corrupt one won and we all have to shove it down our throat.

When it comes to Christian song, I deal with hymns, Fanny Crosby hymns.

Music is one of the language of the soul

Basing any real-world hopes/realities on religion is rarely going to end well. Any parallels are coincidental. Good luck with your new corrupt government, I'm glad I don't live there.

I am familiar with the last two but about the got your six it seems that I knew about it now. Glad I read it and the meaning is good.

I remember a friend back then who advised me to give a sentence of the song or a title of the song when being asked an English sentence. That friend was right because the sentence in the song is a right sentence. I was saved in a class recitation lol.

I imagine you walking around telling your friends, don't worry, I got your six. I'm sure they'll return puzzled looks. 😁

Hahaha plus I have a speech defect that even while reading it a while ago, I read it twice or thrice to read it properly or have the right pronunciation because when I first read it, it sounds like I got your sex lol. Don't get me wrong, I just have a speech defect ahhaha

Haha! Well, some may say, I got your sex is a better phrase to use, but it must be used with caution and in the right situation. 😂

I really like the last two and you're quite lucky to have witnessed a live performance to that wonderful song. I need you sounds so deep and I'm not sure I've said it more than once. But like you said, it doesn't exactly mean dependency in my books, just desire and that blinding bond.

Really nice choices.😁

I understand that the first track is not one many will like and that's ok, I don't put these songs here for people to like, they're for me.

People misunderstand the words I need you to mean dependency and in certain contexts it can mean that, but I use them above in the way you say within a relationship. Maybe I desire you is a better way to say the same thing however I feel that's a completely different thing.

There's many ways to say intimate things to one's partner I guess, I need you is just one and what words come next can make all the difference.

I understand that the first track is not one many will like and that's ok

I won't say that I'd listen to this track when I want to feel happy or anything but somehow, the fact that you listen to it makes me smile. And yes, the fact that you like it doesn't have to please anyone but yourself.

I'll say that the way I'd feel if my partner said I desire you and if he said I need you is quite different. Inciting different emotions all together.

I'll say Galen. You do know your way around things like these, don't you?

Lol, it's probably not a happy song for many, but I like it. I'm a big Five Finger Death Punch fan. Like I say, my music tastes are varied and broad.

I'll say Galen. You do know your way around things like these, don't you?

I've been around for a while and I guess I've picked up a thing or two in my time on the planet. Some has come organically and I've actively sought some as well. I guess I think about my life, my time here, and figure I better make it the best I can because I'll die someday, who knows when, and I'd hate to think I carked it (died) without giving my best in life. You know? So yeah, I know my way around some things.

Thanks buddy for sharing this amazing insight about music, tho this songs aren't so popular in our clime but I know it converse a lot of meaning to you...

Personally I'm an avid lover and listener of music, I'm a Christian and I'm more inclined to Gospel songs, I listened to country music and some of Rap RnB and other genres of music as well, the reason being that I'm more inclined to love a song base in the lyrics, the rhythm the melody and the message contained in the lyrics.

About the "I need you" anology growing up and falling in love we all know certain music meant a whole lot to us, it's almost like thee song was really sang for us and you can literally see your self in every lyrics and verse of these songs ...

I love this post really...it brings so much memories and my love for GOOD MUSIC....THANKS FOR SHARING

Music is different for people, even the same piece of music can have different meaning depending on who hears it. I think that's how it is supposed to be, people interpret the music in their own way.

Since Five Finger Death Punch is kind of new to my ears I had not heard that song before. It is around 7am here and that woke me up. Very cool! You know this one gets added to my play list.

I love "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and yes, I have said it to people before but it is not something I have used on a regular basis. Man that song brings back some youthful memories.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill you can tell have a solid relationship. I have never seen them in concert. My wife has seen Tim Mcgraw solo in concert on base once when I was deployed. She said he called his wife mid-concert for all to hear to tell her he loved her.

I figured you may like that one.

I'm old enough to remember Poison releasing Every rose has its thorn and I liked it a lot. Good memories indeed. 1988...so bloody long ago.

McGraw and Hill have a nice relationship I think, at least that's what they portray. I'm a huge fan of both and would go and see them in concert should they come here again.

That's a great selection of songs. I would have guessed there had been at least one country song with that first phrase in it, but who knows. Five Finger Death Punch will do! My favorite of the three you picked is probably the middle one. I like that you used the Miley version. Her antics detract from her talent many times and that is a shame.

I agree about Miley Cyrus, great talent, dick behaviour. Her version of that song is pretty good...She also does a good job on a track called Malibu which is on YouTube. I like that one a lot too. Give it a listen if you get a chance.

Yep, I have heard the song Malibu. That was one of her more recent albums. I think it was around the time she got back with her boyfriend and it looked like she was going to settle down a bit. It didn't last.

It's a fun song...What a shame that girl can't seem to get things worked out. What is it with these people sometimes, that they can't stay the course? My head can't compute it I guess, I'm not made the same way as them it seems.

I think many of them area product of their upbringing. If you look at her sister Noah, she is even weirder by some degree.

0

Possible yes. I mean, their upbringing isn't normal, as far as everyday people go I guess. I mean growing up in a famous household. I guess there's plenty of weird people out there though, not just those who are famous.

0

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. It might have not been a rough childhood, but it was definitely abnormal. Plus she had the whole Hannah Montana thing and all of the restrictions that put on her life.

It's interesting, people talk about being famous without truly knowing what it's like and what negatives it could come with. Many I would say, including the the come down as fame recedes...How many actors can't get a role after their star fades...must be difficult to deal with. I'd rather not have fame, happy to fly under the radar.

When I was growing up in the States, "got your six" was pretty common in general usage. I didn't know it was from the military until much later.

Tough to beat the Poison original. But Miley does a pretty good job there.

You know, I've told you before that I like a little of everything. But... country is my weakness. I grew up hating country music. That may have been because it was everywhere around Indiana, and my mom was playing it nearly constantly too. Even now, I feel involuntary cringes when I hear that country sound, that twang.

That said, I watched the video and listened to the song. Well don't know about the sound. Haha sorry, I tried. But I do like the message.

You don't need to be sorry about not liking some (or any) of the music I present, I put it here for me, not other people and never consider whether people will like it or not. It's no factor.

I don't like most of what I've seen/heard from others in their TTT posts, I just don't say it out loud, preferring to keep my opinions to myself. Each to their own, and people aren't always going to like what I like, that's how music (and people) go.

All true enough 😃 Many people tend to get annoyed when we don't like what they like, so it's a bit of a politeness thing, hence why I've learned to comment that way. But you are exactly right. I think that's why I enjoy reading your posts and talking to you, Galen; you have a directness and honesty that I find refreshing.

If everyone liked what I like the world would be a pretty boring place, variety is a good thing, and I've never felt inclined to need acceptance anyway really, I run my own race and what others think is of no consequence.

Yep, I am also quite direct, I've had to be over my life I guess, so it's somewhat of a habit.

Music is truly an angel's speech as it speaks soothing and in other ways to match how we feel.

Music is always there for everything felt and I did love how the first tune started. Hehe, the beat was awesome.

Though, I love blues, hehe. That's why Celine Dion will always be among my top 5 rated blue music artists. Her music speaks to me every day. All her music has in-depth meanings to them, so I understand.

Have you watched 1883 yet?

Faith and Tim were very impressive in the roles they played.

But the daughter...

I do not openly weep often. @pooky-jax and I both did. Nuff said. That series touched our hearts deeply.

I'm late today, out for a long walk, but I love it here.

What beautiful songs, I didn't know them, especially the last two... the last one is beautiful and if I have said both, but as you say, not in the sense of dependence...

I was going to sleep but I didn't want to leave you with one of my favourite songs and yes I have said it: Nothing compares to you. I love that song, and it brings back so many beautiful memories.

Thank you for taking me back to the past.... and to the present. Thank you Galenkp.

The first song is one I don't expect many to relate to, but I do relate to it. The other two are more mainstream relatable though.

I know that song you linked, a very good one and probably one that is on many people's favourites list. Thanks for dropping the link, one I haven't heard for a long time.

I like all of your songs, even your FFDP - Miley Cyrus version of Every Rose Has a Thorn is sweet! Now, can we train her? I don't understand her, for God's sake. Every good thing she has had in her life, she has gone out of her way to ruin.

One of the songs that I know I have used because it was true: Plus I love the song, but I cannot always agree with her. :) When I was younger, music was life. Ut expresses things so precisely some days.

This is a good song, written by Prince actually. (Talented bugger that lad was.) Someone else linked this song in this comment thread.

And yeah, Miley Cyrus has been spoken about here too...She's a nutbag, but a talented one. It's such a shame she's taken the actions she has. What could have been huh?

Huh, I had no idea that Miley Cyrus covered that song. She kicked it good! I like! I mostly dislike her music, but that one is good.

And one can really never go wrong with Tim McGraw. He's just good all around.

Thanks for sharing! Was good stuff, and a new song I really enjoyed.

She comes across as a dislikeable person and that probable leads to people not liking her music. She's talented, but wastes it. She did a good job this one though.

Got your six - I though it was cockney rhyming slang originating... I've got your "six-pack" shortened to I've got your six.... Anyway, now I now what you mean with the clock face, good expression and good tune from your boys Five Finger Death Punch... I Need You was a new one on me and I must say I enjoyed it, very pure and genuine.
