Cada segundo domingo de diciembre se celebra el Día Mundial del Canto Coral, y desde el retorno de la Cantoría José Antonio Anzóategui, el año pasado, se ha venido realizando un encuentro de coros en este día especial. Somos los anfitriones de este magno evento que reúne a diversos coros de la ciudad que tienen a bien compartir su talento con todos los presentes.

Es el momento justo para celebrar, con bellas melodías, el amor que sentimos por el canto coral. En esta oportunidad, el encuentro de coros fue en honor al Maestro Virgilio Guerra, quien con 92 años de vida, ha aportado todo su ser para el crecimiento del canto coral en nuestra zona. Recientemente sufrió un ACV, pero a pesar de esto estuvo presente y muy feliz como el ser agasajado de la noche. Cabe destacar que esta brillante persona fue mi maestro de música en la primaria y el primero que vio en mí el talento para el canto; puedo decir que él hizo que esa semilla germinara en mi interior.

Fuimos en total ocho coros de la zona, dirigidos por diferentes profesionales. Un momento simpático se daba cuando varios coralistas entraban y salían para participar en varios coros. Es que el amor por el canto coral se vuelve un estilo de vida. También fue estupendo poder compartir con personas con las que canté en otros coros o a quienes conozco por otras experiencias musicales.

Every second Sunday in December, World Choral Singing Day is celebrated, and since the return of the José Antonio Anzóategui Choir last year, a choir gathering has been held on this special day. We are the hosts of this magnificent event that brings together various choirs from the city who are happy to share their talent with everyone present.

It is the perfect time to celebrate our love of choral singing with beautiful songs. On this occasion, the choir gathering was in honor of Maestro Virgilio Guerra, who, at 92 years of age, has devoted his entire life to the growth of choral singing in our area. He recently suffered a stroke, but despite this, he was present and very happy to be the guest of honor for the evening. It is worth noting that this brilliant person was my music teacher in elementary school and the first to see my talent for singing; I can say that he made that seed germinate within me.

There were a total of eight choirs from the area, conducted by different professionals. It was a delightful moment when several choir members came and went to participate in various choirs. The love of choral singing becomes a way of life. It was also wonderful to be able to share with people I sang with in other choirs or whom I know from other musical experiences.

Fue una noche especial; cada uno de los coros presentes subió e interpretó tres canciones, para luego terminar todos juntos con un canto común. El Maestro Virgilio se notaba sumamente emocionado con cada interpretación y cuando llegó su turno de hablar, fue un momento muy emotivo. Escucharlo explicar con tanto detalle sobre su experiencia en el mundo del canto coral, a pesar de haber tenido un impase de salud tan fuerte; el Maestro aún conserva vitalidad. ¿Será la música la que le alimenta el alma? No me cabe la menor duda.

El evento se llevó a cabo en la Iglesia Maranatha de Puerto La Cruz, lugar donde el agasajado fue parte activa durante muchos años. Es que así es la música, nos lleva a recorrer caminos hermosos una y otra vez; nuestra vida también es una melodía.

Al finalizar el concierto tuvimos un compartir con todos los coralistas, algo breve, pero significativo. Las risas, anécdotas y reminiscencias no faltaron. Es que después de un concierto queda cansancio, pero también satisfacción de haberlo dado todo en escena.

It was a special night; each of the choirs present took the stage and performed three songs, then ended together with a common song. Maestro Virgilio was visibly moved by each performance, and when it was his turn to speak, it was a very emotional moment. Listening to him talk in such detail about his experience in the world of choral singing, despite having had such a serious health setback, it was clear that the Maestro still retains his vitality. Could it be that music nourishes his soul? I have no doubt about it.

The event took place at the Maranatha Church in Puerto La Cruz, where the honoree was an active member for many years. That's how music is; it takes us on beautiful journeys over and over again. Our lives are also a melody.

At the end of the concert, we had a brief but meaningful gathering with all the choir members. There was no shortage of laughter, anecdotes, and reminiscences. After a concert, there is fatigue, but also satisfaction at having given our all on stage.
