Music Review: The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos! Espero que se encuentren todos muy bien y estén disfrutando de buena música que nos hace bien al corazón. Hoy me pasó por acá para traerles mi opinión acerca del nuevo álbum de la artista Taylor Swift. Seguro que ya están un poco cansados de oír hablar de ella, pero es inevitable que cuando sale material nuevo de su autoría no haga una publicación al respecto porque saben que es una gran artista a la que admiro y sigo sus pasos desde hace más de 10 años.

Hello friends! I hope you are all well and are enjoying good music that is good for our hearts. Today I stopped by to bring you my opinion about Taylor Swift's new album. I'm sure you're already a little tired of hearing about her, but it's inevitable that when new material of her authorship comes out I don't make a post about it because you know she's a great artist that I admire and I've been following her steps for more than 10 years.

En esta oportunidad nos sorprendió con su onceavo álbum de estudio llamado The Tortured Poets Department en el que nos cuenta que tuvo un episodio momentáneo de locura que le hizo cometer estos actos de los que nos habla en sus canciones, ya que en ellas nos comparte sus más profundos y oscuros sentimientos de aquello que la atormenta, historias de desamor y sueños anhelados.

In this opportunity she surprised us with her eleventh studio album called The Tortured Poets Department in which she tells us that she had a momentary episode of madness that made her commit these acts she talks about in her songs, since in them she shares with us her deepest and darkest feelings of what torments her, stories of heartbreak and longed-for dreams.

En este caso revive con nosotros amores que fueron intensos, con los que soñó casarse y formar una familia pero no pudo ser, no le echa la culpa a nadie por ello, solo nos relata lo que sintió y la huella que dejaron en ella. En ocasiones amar a alguien no es suficiente y no se es consciente de que se está convirtiendo en un amor tóxico que no hace más que traer malestar, hasta que decidís saltar del barco antes de que se hunda. Tomar esa clase de decisiones nos puede llegar a costar mucho, así que siempre se valora la valentía de elegir tu bienestar y poder abrirse al amor nuevamente cuando las heridas están sanadas. Seguro que escribir este álbum fue una terapia para ella, por eso nos lo comparte una vez que todo está procesado y en una nueva página.

In this case she relives with us loves that were intense, with whom she dreamed of getting married and starting a family but could not be, she does not blame anyone for it, she just tells us what she felt and the mark they left on her. Sometimes loving someone is not enough and you are not aware that it is becoming a toxic love that does nothing but bring discomfort, until you decide to jump ship before it sinks. Making that kind of decision can cost us a lot, so always value the courage to choose your well-being and be able to open up to love again when the wounds are healed. I'm sure that writing this album was therapy for her, that's why she shares it with us once everything is processed and on a new page.

Con melodías alegres y algunas más lentas que otras, además de letras tanto profundas como melancólicas, siento que este álbum es uno de los más complejos y maduros de su carrera. Creo que no es un álbum que invite a nuevas personas a escucharla, sino que es para los que sabemos o nos imaginamos el trasfondo de cada una de estas canciones. Es un viaje de introspección y una manera de elaborar un duelo, por eso se basó en las 5 etapas del mismo para poder abordarlo.

With upbeat melodies and some slower than others, plus both deep and melancholic lyrics, I feel this album is one of the most complex and mature of her career. I think it is not an album that invites new people to listen to it, but it is for those of us who know or can imagine the background of each of these songs. It is a journey of introspection and a way to elaborate a mourning, that's why it was based on the 5 stages of grief to be able to approach it.

No sé qué esperaba cuando lo escuché por primera vez, pero quedé totalmente fascinada con cada nueva canción que escuchaba, con algunas es fácil identificarse y otras son tan profundas y mágicas al mismo tiempo que es imposible no imaginarse en otra época. Sorpresa me lleve al ver que terminó siendo un álbum doble con un total de 31 temas, 16 de la versión estándar y 15 de la Anthology. Además, cada parte tiene su propio estilo, siendo la primera más melódica como su anterior álbum Midnights y la segunda más al estilo de folk indie como Folklore y Evermore. Por el momento logré conectar más con la primera parte que es la que más escuché, pero ambas son muy buenas en mi opinión.

I don't know what I expected when I listened to it for the first time, but I was totally fascinated with each new song I heard, some of them are easy to identify with and others are so deep and magical at the same time that it is impossible not to imagine myself in another era. I was surprised to see that it ended up being a double album with a total of 31 tracks, 16 of the standard version and 15 of the Anthology. Also, each part has its own style, the first being more melodic like their previous album Midnights and the second more indie folk style like Folklore and Evermore. At the moment I managed to connect more with the first part which is the one I listened to the most, but both are very good in my opinion.

Si hablamos de números, a pesar de que el álbum fue filtrado ilegalmente dos días antes de su lanzamiento oficial, logró romper el récord al álbum más escuchado en Spotify en menos de 24 horas. Les recuerdo que el anterior récord fue el de Midnights de la misma artista. A nivel crítica le fue mejor de lo esperado porque ya sabemos que al ser una artista masiva tiene bastante hate, incluso de sus mismos fans. Pero una vez más quedó demostrado que todo lo que hace Taylor Swift lo convierte en arte.

If we talk about numbers, despite the fact that the album was illegally leaked two days before its official release, it managed to break the record for the most listened album on Spotify in less than 24 hours. I remind you that the previous record was Midnights by the same artist. Critically she did better than expected because we already know that being a massive artist she has a lot of hate, even from her own fans. But once again it was demonstrated that everything Taylor Swift does turns it into art.

Bueno amigos, hasta acá mi apreciación acerca de este álbum, en esta ocasión preferí enfocarme en lo qué me pareció y de lo qué trata que en canciones en particular. En otro momento me encantaría venir a mostrarles mi top de canciones favoritas del mismo. Ya veré, por lo pronto, esto es todo por hoy.
