Remembrance and tribute to the great Rubby Pérez
Until now, in the merengue set of any gathering in Latin America, the great Rubby with his songs is still present after several decades until today.
Over time, we learned that he had a leg problem; but that didn't affect him from making himself heard with his virtuoso voice. How high and in tune that muérgano sang; I always wanted to sing folk music and I didn't really like Dominican merengue, and it was through Rubby that I understood the magic of other genres.
There's a lot to say about merengue in its various forms, but in particular with Rubby, merengue was something extraordinary and exceptional. Many wanted to emulate and reach the peak of this legend. Rubby had been singing for his audiences for just over fifty years. And the last time I heard him on the "Freecover" on YouTube, I couldn't understand how someone over 66 years old could have such good and powerful vocal qualities; he did. I know so many people who, even though they're younger than that, sing, and their voices sound in decline, for one reason or another.
Rubby Pérez passed away a few days ago. What a distinguished Venezuelan has passed away. It's incredible that he was buried under the flag of both the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, the latter being his homeland, the one that supported him in his international breakthrough in the 1980s, during those gigs with that colossal band: "Súper Sábado Sensacional" with Amador Bendayán, Gilberto Correa, and others who have long since passed into memory. Rubby was eternally in love and welcomed to the land of Bolívar, with that voice that will continue to be a testament to his talent at parties and soirees in Latin America and other parts of the world.
You are in other latitudes and God likes good music and good singers. Good music is engraved not only in the ears, but in the soul... I'm not going to talk about how much is said about what happened; because it is very controversial and recent (We leave that to your family, the authorities and God), but what I am going to talk about is the mark, the artistic and human quality of the great Rubby Pérez, a Dominican and also a great Venezuelan.

Recuerdo y homenaje al gran Rubby Pérez
Hasta ahora, en el set de merengue de cualquier tertulia en Latinoamérica, el gran Rubby con sus canciones está presente luego de varias décadas hasta hoy.
Con el tiempo supimos que tenía un problema en la pierna; pero, eso no lo afectaba para dejarse oír con una virtuosa voz. Como cantaba de alto y afinado ese muérgano; siempre quise cantar en música folk y no me gustaba mucho eso del merengue dominicano, y fue por Rubby que entendí la magia de otros géneros.
Es que hay mucho que hablar del merengue en sus diversas variantes, pero en lo particular de Rubby, el merengue fue algo extraordinario y excepcional. Muchos quisieron emular y alcanzar la cumbre de esta leyenda, Rubby tenía algo más de cincuenta años cantando para su público. Y la última vez que lo escuché en el “Freecover” de youtube, no entendía como alguien con más de 66 años podía tener unas condiciones vocales tan buenas y potentes, él las tenía. Conozco a tanta gente que teniendo menos de esa edad, cantan y la voz se les escucha en declive, por alguna razón u otra.
Rubby Pérez, partió hace algunos días. Que insigne venezolano se fue. Es increíble que lo hayan enterrado con la bandera de República Dominicana y la de Venezuela, esta última, su tierra, la que le brindó el apoyo para su internacionalización en la década de los ochenta en esas presentaciones de aquel coloso: “Súper Sábado Sensacional” con Amador Bendayán, Gilberto Correa y los demás que escapan a la memoria. Rubby fue un eterno enamorado y bienvenido a la tierra de Bolívar, con esa voz que seguirá presente como testimonio de talento en las fiestas y saraos de Latinoamérica y otras partes del mundo.
Estás en otras latitudes y a Dios le gusta la buena música y los buenos cantantes. La buena música queda grabada no solo en los oídos, sino en el alma… No voy hablar de lo tanto que se habla en ocasión de lo que pasó; porque es muy polémico y reciente (Eso se lo dejamos a tu familia, a las autoridades y a Dios), pero de lo sí voy hablar es de la huella, de la calidad artística y humana del gran Rubby Pérez, un dominicano y también un gran venezolano.
Mi pueblo te despide, como hoy lo hago en esta publicación, con muchos aplausos y una oración. Acá debajo de estas líneas compartiré unos videos de “La voz más alta del merengue” para su disfrute. Hasta la próxima, Dios les bendiga…
