I am very excited to let you know that my music reviews are back. That's right, this year there will be many more album reviews and I'm very excited about that, because music is and will be the light of my life and my comfort zone. I thought long and hard about what reviews to start this year with, and decided to do one more Deep Dive, this time with the Queen of the entertainment industry, Mother Monster herself. Together we will dive into the career of the latest pop icon and one of music's legends, Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga has always represented so much to me personally. Her creativity, iconicity, her presence and message have been reason to keep me afloat, identify, cry and love every moment of her career. She is my favorite artist of all time and for that reason alone I have decided to review each of her studio albums, a Deep Dive, where we will be reviewing her music chronologically and giving her a review that I will try to keep as partial as possible.
We begin our adventure with the singer's first album, the album that made her a legend and launched her to stardom. We go to August 2008, when the album was released and where we would see the new pop icon consolidate. With genres such as Pop, Electronic and Dance, Gaga gave us a cultural jewel with great hits, with themes ranging from love to sex, addictions and even sexual identity. The Fame is one of the best debut albums of the moment, both for its success and its quality and reviews, and introduced us to what would become a superstar, an icon in so many ways that we are just beginning to understand. I've had a little bit too much, much
All of the people start to rush.
The party starts and Gaga brings us the single that started her popularity. We all remember this single, super catchy and with simple lyrics. In fact, the singer has confessed that she wrote the lyrics in a matter of minutes and that it was already ready. The production is exquisite and defined what would be the new pop movement, with an electronic and dance direction.
It is the perfect song to start the album and to start a party, it is danceable and, with the participation of Colby O'donis that adds an extra to the song that makes it an ideal hit. To hear the notes with which it starts is to know that you are in the presence of pop greatness. A 10 / 10, whose remarkable part is undoubtedly the bridge, before starting the last chorus, where you can hear Gaga's voice in a distorted way, it's a pretty strong start.
Let's have some fun, this beat is sick
I wanna take a ride on your disco stick.
If there's one thing this album has, it's potential, as many of the songs would have served as good singles to promote. Gaga chose this song for the promo, and she gave us a great gem. Talking about sex in an almost explicit way, she showed a bit of her irreverence and what she was about to bring to the industry.
The production is quite disco, the electronic influence is very, very noticeable, but it makes for a pop song that you can't stop listening to in your mind. I can say it's one of my favorites on the album, and we're just getting started. A 10 / 10, and the highlight of this single is when she says: "Hold me and love me, I just wanna touch you for a minute", with a very peculiar voice.
We are the crowd, we're c-comin' out
Got my flash on, it's true.
My favorite song on this album right away. The first song I ever learned, the first Gaga song I fell in love with. In it, Lady Gaga talks about love and fame, how she can only have one of them or if she can have both. It has a production quite ahead of its time, with a rhythm a little slower than the previous ones, with a certain mystery.
Thanks to this song, Gaga has one of the most talked about performances of all time, because it's impossible to forget when she hung on stage bathed in art... All for the performance! I can't give less than a 10 / 10 to this work of art.
I wanna hold 'em like they do in Texas, please
Fold 'em, let 'em hit me, raise it, baby, stay with me.
A timeless hit, let's start there. That hit that catapulted her to worldwide fame, one of the most successful songs of all time. Poker Face is a cultural reset, a moment that endures in the history of music and that changed the course of the artist's career and the path that pop music had at that time.
The song talks about bisexuality, as Gaga herself has confessed, saying multiple times that it is about her being in a relationship with a man, but wanting to be having sex with another woman. There's not much to mention about the production, because in my opinion it's pure pop perfection. Pure 10 / 10 that assures us that the artist's success is well deserved.
Boy, we've had a real good time
And I wish you the best on your way, eh-eh
Slowing down the pace a bit, with a little breather, Gaga gives us a song that although it is quite pop, we notice how it is much softer than its predecessors. The lyrics are pretty simple, telling us about how Gaga falls in love with someone else and has to end her current relationship. Pretty pop and pink, if you could say so.
It's not my favorite song on the album and, in my opinion, the album loses a bit of the punch it had been carrying, but in moments of sadness, it's nice to hear something softer from the performer. For me, easy is a 8 / 10.
We got a redlight
Pornographic dance fight.
While the lyrics are a bit more explicit, we see the fun of this song. It's feeling rich, beautiful and dirty no matter where you come from. It didn't get a great commercial reception, but it's a moment to remember, it's very good and laid back, yet upbeat enough to play at a party.
Again you can feel how the album doesn't quite reach the strength it started with, but they're not bad songs, just the beginning is hard to match. This song could well be a 7.5 / 10, enjoyable but not immortal.

It's some kind of joke, I'm obsessively opposed to the typical.
The title-track comes to us and we see a huge reference to one of Gaga's biggest inspirations and one of her favorite artists. The David Bowie overtones in this song are impossible to ignore and are a joy in the soul. The song, lyrically, is not of great significance, as it mostly talks about the celebrity's life, the good and the bad and the materialistic of it.
I'm always going to love the production, as it reminds me a lot of a music icon, and it feels quite laid back, not too heavy and catchy. The bridge is a delight and almost an early prediction from Gaga herself, saying, "Don't ask me how or why, but I'm going to make it to the top." A great 9 / 10 that reminds you why you're listening to this album.
Damn, I love the Jag,
The jet, and the mansion.
Following the theme of the album, Gaga shows us her desire for opulence and her material life in contrast to her need to find love. I find this song quite a bit sexier than the others, especially in Gaga's voice, which sounds seductive, youthful and sensual, with a voice that says "when you touch me it's so delicious" and hypnotizes you.
I'm fond of this song, not for any specific reason, but because it's quite pleasant, quite pop and it makes me feel good to listen to it. I rate it a 8 / 10 because after songs like Poker Face and Just Dance, it's hard to get a 10.

Styling out to the beat that you're freakin'.
Back to lyrics that make references to sex, we have what could have been a big hit but was not. Starstruck in my opinion had all the potential to be a single, with collaborators like Space Cowboy and Flo Rida, we have what could have been Just Dance's sibling but Gaga's career would take a big turn (for the better).
The production is infectious, the beat is too enjoyable and the lyrics are simple and easy to remember, all to be a hit. But, my favorite part is always going to be the beginning, it's so irreverent in its own way, and the fact that he repeats it in the bridge is just iconic. For me it's a 10 / 10, giving the album back the strength it had started to lose.
Hey there, sugar baby, saw you twice at the pop show
You taste just like glitter mixed with rock 'n' roll.
Another song with a lot of strength to be a single but, due to schedule "problems", it had to be cancelled. It is an excellent song, with a lot of irreverence in it, with a Gaga who is not afraid to be sexual. We must consider that in those times, women did not have the same freedom they have now when it comes to talking about their sex life.
Boys Boys Boys is a tremendous gem and one that, in my opinion, should have much more recognition than it possesses. It is, at least for me, a definite 10 / 10 and the song I recommend you listen to if you have already heard the singer's popular singles.

Inkin' Lincoln, sanskrit with a fan.
One of my least favorite songs on the album... before knowing the context of the excessive auto-tune in the song, context which I will summarize for you. Gaga did not have artistic freedom with the label she was with before releasing the album, who tried to force her to use auto-tune, something she did not approve of and terminated the contract. The song uses excess of this tool in order to show her old label what her music would have sounded like if she had listened to them. ICON.
The song isn't all bad, but it's really not my favorite, it has a totally different vibe than what was being handled and it takes you out of the loop a little bit. I'll give it a 6 / 10 because I find the backstory curious and funny.
In your brown eyes, I walked away
In your brown eyes, I couldn't stay.
The ultimate album ballad. It has pros and cons, of course, but it's a delight to listen to. The production sounds great, the guitar and every distinguishable element is perfect. However, it fails a bit in the lyrics, well it narrates a breakup, a lost love, I feel the message gets lost and becomes repetitive, and personally I feel the song is intended to be something general so more people can identify with it.
It's a good song, it just could be much better, as I expect more of a ballad than a pop song for the dance floor. Brown Eyes is good, but not good enough. A 7 / 10.

Can't sleep with the man who dims my shine.
All of Gaga's strength returns, and this is one of the definitive songs that shows that Gaga can still close the album as she started it. Lady Gaga tells us about addictions, but specifically, about the need for "masochistic love", looking for a love that doesn't do you any good but that you love. The song is too good, with impeccable backvocals, a production that makes your hair stand on end and leaves you wanting more.
My favorite part is, personally, on both pre-choruses, as Gaga delivers SENSUALITY with all the letters of the word. "You got me wondering why I like it rough" and you know it's a hit (without having been). A beautiful 10 / 10 that gives you faith that Gaga will close on a good note.
Nowhere, yeah, we’re goin' nowhere fast
Maybe this time, I’ll be yours, you’ll be mine.
Summerboy reminds me a lot of Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), they have that same vibe of a tender pop song that talks about uncomplicated issues. The song talks about a girl falling in love with a boy in the summer, which in the words of the singer, is something that happens to all girls because in summer there are no clothes.
The production is nice, and I've become very fond of this song lately, and although it's not a great song or a great anthem, it's nice to listen to it from time to time, especially when you're waking up in the morning and you're about to take a bath, that's my opinion. For me, an 8 / 10 is more than fair.

It's getting cold in here, little honey.
And we close the album, but we do so with the least memorable song on the entire album and my least favorite. The song describes the moments of her friendship with Lady Starlight when they were just emerging on stage in New York, ready for the disco, the party and the stardom. To this day, Lady Starlight is still friends with Gaga and has even opened for her on Gaga's tours, which I think is nice.
However, speaking specifically about the song, it would have been better left as a throwaway, as I feel it doesn't add anything positive to the album and that's why this song has the worst commercial reception. A 4 / 10 that makes the album close catastrophically.

Doing the job of reviewing the music of my favorite artist and sharing this opinion with you is a great gift, so I am very excited to share the beginning of a Deep Dive of Lady Gaga, the artist of the moment, the girl who defied the rules, a pioneer and a legend. Starting with The Fame is the obvious choice, because we'll be working our way through her music chronologically, but it feels good to start with this album which while not my favorite, is a pretty good one and considered by professional critics as one of the best debut albums ever.
The Fame is pure pop, it's the direction music would take back then and she did great, she did her homework well and brought us catchy lyrics, danceable beats and visuals that would last through time. Gaga proved that she had potential and that she was coming to the music industry to generate something, not just a few hits, but something that would transcend and mark the culture as we know it. The Fame has her deserved 8.5 and we can't wait to see how she grows album after album.
I'm happy to have finished this post, it was quite a journey to go back to Gaga's beginnings and above all, to start with this review this 2023, starting a small project of music reviews of my biggest idol. Me emociona mucho comunicarles que mis reseñas musicales han vuelto. Así es, este año habrán muchas más reseñas de álbumes y eso me emociona muchísimo, porque la música es y será la luz de mi vida y mi zona de confort. Pensé mucho acerca de con qué reseñas empezar este año, y decidí hacer un Deep Dive más, esta vez con la Reina de la industria del entretenimiento, la mismísima Madre Monstruo. Juntos nos sumergiremos en la carrera del último ícono del pop y una de las leyendas de la música, Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga siempre ha representado muchísimo para mí, personalmente. Su creatividad, iconicidad, su presencia y mensaje han sido motivo para mantenerme a flote, identificarme, llorar y amar cada momento de su carrera. Es mi artista favorita de todos los tiempos y solo por esa razón he decidido hacerle reseña a cada uno de sus álbumes de estudios, un Deep Dive, donde estaremos repasando cronológicamente su música y dándole una crítica que trataré de mantener lo más parcial posible.
Empezamos nuestra aventura con el primer álbum de la cantante, aquel álbum que la convirtió en una leyenda y la lanzó al estrellato. Nos vamos a agosto del 2008, fecha en la que fue publicado el álbum y donde veríamos consolidarse al nuevo ícono del pop. Con géneros como Pop, Electrónica y Dance, Gaga nos regaló una joya cultural con grandes hits, con temas que van desde el amor hasta el sexo, las adicciones e incluso la identidad sexual. The Fame es uno de los mejores álbumes debut al momento, tanto por su éxito por su calidad y críticas, y nos presentó lo que sería una superestrella, un ícono en tantos sentidos que apenas y estamos por empezar a entender. He tenido un poco demasiado, mucho (oh, oh, oh-oh)
Todas las personas comienzan a apresurarse, comienzan a apresurarse.
La fiesta inicia y Gaga nos trae el sencillo que le empezó a dar popularidad. Todos recordamos este sencillo, súper pegajoso y con líricas simples. De hecho, la cantante ha confesado que hizo la letra en cuestión de algunos minutos y que ya estaba lista. La producción es exquisita y definió lo que sería el nuevo movimiento del pop, con un rumbo electrónico y dance.

Escuchar las notas con las que inicia es saber que estás ante grandeza pop. Un 10 / 10, cuya parte remarcable es sin duda la del puente, antes de iniciar el último coro, donde se escucha la voz de Gaga de forma distorsionada, es un inicio bastante fuerte.
Vamos a divertirnos un poco, este ritmo es enfermizo
Quiero darme un paseo por la barra de tu discoteca.
Si hay algo que tiene este álbum es potencial, pues muchas de las canciones hubiesen servido como buenos sencillos para promocionar. Gaga escogió esta canción para la promoción, y nos dio una gran joya. Hablando de sexo de forma casi explícita, ella demostró un poco de su irreverencia y de lo que estaba a punto de traer a la industria.
La producción es bastante disco, se nota muchísimo la influencia de la electrónica, pero hace que sea una canción pop que no puedes dejar de escuchar en tu mente. Puedo decir que es una de mis favoritas del álbum, y eso que solo estamos iniciando. Un 10 / 10, y la parte a remarcar de este sencillo es cuando dice: “Sostenme y ámame, sólo quiero tocarte por un minuto”, con una voz bastante peculiar.
Somos la multitud
Vamos a salir.
Mi canción favorita de este álbum de inmediato. La primera canción que alguna vez me aprendí, la primera de Gaga de la cual me enamoré. En ella, Lady Gaga nos habla del amor y la fama, de cómo sólo puede tener una de ellas o si es capaz de tener ambas. Cuenta con una producción bastante adelantada a sus tiempos, con un ritmo un poco más lento que las anteriores, con cierto misterio.
Gracias a esta canción, Gaga tiene una de las presentaciones más habladas de todos los tiempos, porque es imposible olvidar cuando colgó en el escenario bañada el arte… ¡Todo sea por el perfomance! No puedo darle menos de un 10 / 10 a esta obra de arte.
Quiero mantenerlos como lo hacen en Texas, por favor
Dobla, deja que me golpeen, levántalo, nena, quédate conmigo.
Un hit atemporal, empezamos por ahí. Aquel éxito que la catapultó a la fama mundial, una de las canciones más exitosas de todos los tiempos. Poker Face es un reseteo cultural, un momento que perdura en la historia de la música y que cambió el rumbo de la carrera de la artista y el trayecto que tenía en ese momento la música pop.
La canción habla de la bisexualidad, como lo ha confesado la misma Gaga, diciendo múltiples veces que se trata de ella estando en una relación con un hombre, pero queriendo estar teniendo relaciones con otra mujer. No hay mucho que mencionar de la producción, porque en mi opinión es pura perfección pop. Puros 10 / 10 que nos aseguran que el éxito de la artista es bien merecido.
Niño, tuvimos un tiempo realmente bueno
Y te deseo lo mejor en tu camino, eh-eh.
Bajando un poco el ritmo, con un pequeño respiro, Gaga nos brinda una canción que si bien es bastante pop, notamos como es mucho más suave que sus predecesoras. La letra es bastante simple, nos habla de cómo Gaga se enamora de alguien más y tiene que terminar con su actual relación. Bastante pop y rosa, si podría decirse.
No es mi canción favorita del álbum y, en mi opinión, el álbum pierde un poco de la fuerza que venía arrastrando, pero en momentos de tristeza, es lindo escuchar algo más suave de la intérprete. Para mí, fácil es un 8 / 10.
Tenemos luz roja
Pornografía, batalla de baile.
Si bien la letra es un poco más explícita, vemos lo divertido de esta canción. Es sentirse rico, hermoso y sucio sin importar de donde vengas. No tuvo gran recibimiento comercial, pero es un momento para recordar, es muy buena y relajada, aunque lo suficiente movida para ponerla en una fiesta.
De nuevo se puede sentir como el álbum no alcanza la fuerza con la que empezó, pero no son malas canciones, sólo que el inicio es difícil de igualar. Esta canción bien podría ser un 7.5 / 10, disfrutable pero no inmortal.

Es una especie de broma, me opongo obsesivamente a lo típico.
El title-track llega a nosotros y vemos una enorme referencia a una de las más grandes inspiraciones de Gaga y uno de sus artistas favoritos. Los tintes de David Bowie en esta canción son imposibles de ignorar y son una alegría en el alma. La canción, líricamente, no tiene gran trascendencia, pues mayormente habla de la vida del famoso, lo bueno y lo malo y lo materialista de ella.
La producción siempre me va a encantar, pues me recuerda mucho a un ícono de la música, y se siente bastante relajada, poco pesada y pegadiza. El puente es una delicia y casi una predicción temprana de la misma Gaga, diciendo: “No me preguntes cómo o por qué, pero voy a llegar a la cima”. Un gran 9 / 10 que te recuerda por qué estás escuchando este álbum.
Maldición, me encanta el Jaguar,
El jet y la mansión.
Siguiendo la temática del álbum, Gaga nos muestra su deseo de opulencia y su vida material en contraste con su necesidad de encontrar amor. Esta canción me parece bastante más sexy que las otras, en especial en la voz de Gaga, que suena seductora, juvenil y sensual, con una voz que diciendo “cuando me tocas es tan delicioso” te hipnotiza.
Le tengo cariño a esta canción, no por algún motivo en específico, sino porque es bastante agradable, bastante pop y me hace sentir bien escucharla. La puntúo con un 8 / 10 porque luego de canciones como Poker Face y Just Dance, es difícil conseguir un 10.

Estilizando al ritmo que estás enloqueciendo.
De vuelta a letras que hacen referencias al sexo, tenemos lo que pudo haber sido un gran éxito pero no fue. Starstruck en mi opinión tenía todo el potencial para ser sencillo, con colaboradores como Space Cowboy y Flo Rida, tenemos lo que pudo ser la hermana de Just Dance pero la carrera de Gaga daría un gran giro (para mejor).
La producción es contagiosa, el ritmo es demasiado disfrutable y la letra es sencilla y fácil de recordar, todo para ser un hit. Pero, mi parte favorita siempre va a ser el inicio, es tan irreverente en su propia manera, y el hecho de que lo repite en el puente es simplemente icónico. Para mí es un 10 / 10, devolviéndole al álbum la fuerza que había empezado a perder.
Oye, cariño, te vi dos veces en el show pop
Sabes cómo purpurina mezclada con rock and roll.
Otra canción con mucha fuerza para ser sencillo pero, por “problemas” de agenda, tuvo que ser cancelado. Es una excelente canción, con mucha irreverencia en ella, con una Gaga que no teme a ser sexual. Debemos considerar que en aquellos tiempos, las mujeres no tenían la misma libertad que tienen ahora a la hora de hablar de su vida sexual.
Boys Boys Boys es una tremenda joya y que, en mi opinión, debería tener mucho más reconocimiento del que posee. Es, al menos para mí, un definitivo 10 / 10 y la canción que les recomiendo que escuchen si ya han escuchado los sencillos populares de la cantante.

Inkin Lincoln, guión de arena con un ventilador.
Una de mis canciones menos preferidas del álbum… antes de saber el contexto del exceso de auto-tune en la canción, contexto que les resumiré. Gaga no tenía libertad artística con la disquera en la que estaba antes de publicar el álbum, quienes trataron de obligarla a usar auto-tune, algo que ella no aprobó y terminaron dicho contrato. La canción usa exceso de esta herramienta con el fin de demostrarle a su vieja disquera como hubiese sonado su música si ella les hubiese hecho caso. ÍCONO.
La canción no es del todo mala, pero de verdad que no es mi favorita, tiene una vibra totalmente diferente a lo que se venía manejando y te saca un poco de onda. Le daré un 6 / 10 porque la historia de trasfondo me parece curiosa y chistosa.
En tus ojos marrones
Me fui.
La balada del álbum definitiva. Tiene pros y contras, por supuesto, pero es una delicia escucharla. La producción suena muy bien, la guitarra y cada elemento que se puede distinguir es perfecto. Sin embargo, falla un poco en la letra, pues bien narra una ruptura, un amor perdido, siento que el mensaje se pierde y se vuelve repetitiva, y personalmente siento que la canción tiene la intención de ser algo general para que más personas puedan identificarse con ella.
Es una buena canción, solo que puede ser mucho mejor, pues espero más de una balada que de una canción pop para la pista de baile. Brown Eyes es buena, pero no lo suficiente. Un 7 / 10.

No puedo dormir con el hombre que atenúa mi brillo.
Toda la fuerza de Gaga vuelve, y esta es de las canciones definitivas que muestran que Gaga aún puede cerrar el álbum como lo inició. Lady Gaga nos habla de adicciones, pero de forma específica, de la necesidad de un “amor masoquista”, buscar un amor que no te hace bien pero que te encanta. La canción es demasiado buena, con backvocals impecables, una producción que te pone los pelos de punta y te deja con ganas de más.
Mi parte favorita es, personalmente, en ambos pre-coros, pues Gaga se encarga de entregar SENSUALIDAD con todas las letras de la palabra. “Me tienes preguntando por qué me gusta lo rudo” y ya sabes que es un hit (sin haberlo sido). Un hermoso 10 / 10 que te da fe en que Gaga cerrará con buen pie.
A ninguna parte, sí, no vamos a ninguna parte rápido
Tal vez esta vez yo sea tuyo, tú serás mío.
Summerboy me recuerda mucho a Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), tienen esa misma vibra de canción pop tierna que habla de temas poco complejos. La canción habla de una chica enamorándose en verano de un chico, lo que en palabras de la intérprete, es algo que le pasa a todas las chicas pues en verano no hay ropa.
La producción es linda, y le he agarrado mucho cariño a esta canción últimamente, y aunque no es la gran canción o tremendo himno, es lindo escucharla de tanto en tanto, en especial cuando estás despertando en la mañana y estás por darte un buen baño, esa es mi opinión. Para mí, un 8 / 10 en más que justo.

Y cerramos el álbum, pero lo hacemos con la canción menos memorable de todo el álbum y mi menos favorita. La canción describe los momentos de su amistad con Lady Starlight cuando apenas surgían en el escenario de Nueva York, listas para el disco, la fiesta y el estrellato. Al sol de hoy, Lady Starlight sigue siendo amiga de Gaga e incluso ha hecho de telonera en las giras de Gaga, lo cual me parece bonito.
Sin embargo, hablando específicamente de la canción, hubiese sido mejor que quedara como un descarte, pues siento que no aporta nada positivo al álbum y es por eso que esta canción es la que peor recibimiento comercial tiene. Un 4 / 10 que hace que el álbum cierre de forma catastrófica.

Hacer el trabajo de reseñar la música de mi artista favorita y compartir esta opinión con ustedes es un gran regalo, por lo que estoy muy emocionado de compartir el inicio de un Deep Dive de Lady Gaga, la artista del momento, la chica que desafió las reglas, una pionera y una leyenda. Empezar con The Fame es la decisión obvia, porque estaremos trabajando su música de forma cronológica, pero se siente bien empezar con este álbum que si bien no es mi favorito, es uno bastante bueno y considerado por la crítica profesional como uno de los mejores álbumes debut jamás vistos.
The Fame es pop puro, es el rumbo que tomaría la música en aquel entonces y ella lo hizo genial, hizo bien su tarea y nos trajo letras pegadizas, ritmos bailables y visuales que perdurarían en el tiempo. Gaga demostró que tenía potencial y que venía a la industria musical a generar algo, no solo unos cuantos hits, pero algo que trascendería y marcaría la cultura tal y como la conocemos. The Fame tiene su merecido 8.5 y no podemos esperar a ver como ella va creciendo álbum tras álbum.
Estoy feliz de haber finalizado este post, fue todo un viaje volver a los inicios de Gaga y sobre todo, empezar con esta reseña este 2023, iniciando un pequeño proyecto de reseñas musicales de mi más grande ídolo.
