Reflections about Re

_storage_emulated_0_DCIM_Camera_IMG_20231202_134744.jpg

This animated video, Re, rested in my drafts for some weeks. Since then it has wanted to come to Hive, but I didn't know how to approach that task. It was on the reply in my head, the music just flew, but the words remained hostages in some distant realms. Re.

Of course, I reflected on the possible meaning of that simple word, the title of this piece composed by Nils Frahm. It is not just the music, but the combination with the animation (made by Hungarian director Balázs Simon) that makes it exquisite for our eyes and hearing.

I watched the video many times and still, I don't have one clear idea of what it could exactly represent. But I am also sure we all can see different details and meanings in it. The ropes which tighten, tremble and connect destruction and unification, in the end, form part of a new shape where a tender creature would maybe find its destiny. Being reborn? Rescued? Or something quite different (the opposite).

Although I think in English while I am writing a post, inevitably, many Spanish words come to my mind that start with re. Regresar, retomar, realidad, retiro, refugio, rechazo, rehén, reacción, regalo, rescate, respiro, rebeldía, rezar, resistir, reposar, revivir, renacer...

However, maybe all these words have no connection with the title of this sublime music. If we think simply, in musical words, it can be the second note in the musical scale. There is a history behind these syllables that are used in music, though.

It was Guido of Arezzo, an Italian Benedictine monk and musical theorist who used the Hymn to Saint John the Baptist, Ut queant laxis. The names of the musical notes of modern Latin notation are taken from the first syllables of the verses of this hymn.

Ut queant laxis
Resonare fibris
Mira gestorum
Famuli tuorum
Solve polluti
Labii reatum
Sancte Ioannes.

Just some centuries later ut was changed to do, to ease the singing of that syllable.

Re-reading what I have written in this post until this point makes me realise that we had a little reflection about the possible meaning of the title, a list of words starting with re and a super short music history lesson. Well, some photos also appeared here, which I played with and gave this colour that they got. 😅

But all that didn't matter. What really matters here is the music of Nils Frahm that waited its moment to come to this music-inspired corner. Let the sound of this composition run in our imagination like this deer in the animated video.

The video inspires me with the life that runs in the midst of destruction as the lines tense and relax, the life that passes and passes, the beginning and the end and then life again.

I love it and the sepia photographs are beautiful... those words beginning in D are thought provoking.

Thank you @mipiano.❤️

Yes, it is very inspirational, and I also listen to the piano which sounds amazing, with so many dynamic details played on an older upright piano, without the wooden cover. The microphones are placed close to the strings, so it gives that sound we hear. But these are technical details I pay attention to hahaha, what is in the focus would be life, destiny or depending what we see in it ;)

I am glad you liked it, @avdesing 😇

Yes, I don't know about technique but it made me feel great, that music is beautiful and touches the depths of the heart. I love it!😍

(Edited)

The music, the deer, the strings (ropes) that tighten and loosen, that earth that wants to join, the box... so much wonder and also mystery. And you bringing all this to Hive... it is not possible that I would let this pass, without a dot or three dots.

During winter we see the leaves fall down more like this but they change color so they still look very beautiful.

I feel like that magnificent Deer, walking among pieces that support me. Tied by fragile ropes that unite and root my journey through life. The deer looks vital, exploratory and let's say happy, accepting the challenges of jumping into the void with the confidence of landing exactly where it wants to fall. It is beautiful, the animation, the story and of course the music!!! sublime!!

That is what I was thinking all along but did not want to reemphasise it glad you did, although that vid and those keys do make once mind wonder off...if one still has a mind that is allowed to wonder.

The song and the clip give me serenity and peace. Maybe Re comes from Reborn.
It could symbolize being reborn, right :P

Yes, we all have our interpretations according to our thoughts and feelings, and being reborn is maybe one of the impressions we can get from Re 😉

My first thought when reading 'Re" was the Dutch word 'Ree' which means a 'deer'. And then when pushed the play button of the music/video, I saw this 'Ree' and thought: "Would this also be the same in the Hungarian language?" - DeepL told me "NO".

Such a nice piece of music! So minimalistic, so subtle, so so so... No Words can describe it, well not words that I can think of.

Somehow the animated video incl the music gave me not a sad feeling, but quite positive vibes. "Everything stays connected, even when things seem to fall apart", is what I take from the video. I suppose with just a single instrument, tapping the cords resulting in a magical arrangement, we'll be able to 'rope' all the 'elements' together so that we are as whole as the cube at the end of the video.

Did I make any sense? Perhaps not, but in my mind it all made sense 😂

That is a nice coincidence, that in Dutch ree is deer, and in the video, we have one as the main protagonist. As you already see, not the case for the Hungarian language. It is szarvas in Hungarian (the deer).

Did I make any sense? Perhaps not, but in my mind it all made sense 😂

Your interpretation and idea make a lot of sense ✨ I do like your vision of it, and also, I am very glad you liked the music part. Nils 😍

For me it is clear that life depends on a thread. That life ends but resurfaces, that there may be shadows but light always emerges. The important thing is where to find life.
Music gives a sense of spiritual peace, of sociego.
Very nice your post. Congratulations. 🌹

Life depends on a thread... well said. We just have to see the most obvious example, when a mother gives birth to her child, they are still connected to the umbilical cord, right?
Thank you for checking out this post, @mamani 🦌

Here the children sing "music is everywhere you just have to learn to listen." Life is also reborn under the dry leaves. I like that relaxing music. Some leaves fall, others will be born to replace them and the cycle of life continues. jjj I think I hear the Lion King say that (the movie) Nice post.
