New tunes, new instrument

Why doesn't this woman play the flute?

As a ritual that repeats itself every Sunday, my husband says these words after bringing my piano into our home. If he didn't say these words, I would worry - maybe he is not feeling well and forgot to say this magic phrase? 🤔

Then we laugh (some in their cross and some of us watching as my instrument arrives home without my effort to carry it up the stairs), but I know, there is truth to it. Some instruments are easier to transport, it is true, although my instrument case with little wheels I bought some years ago,Voyager, helps a lot to transport the piano you see in the previous picture, mostly everywhere I need it (if the place can be reached by car).

But what if you could carry your musical instrument everywhere, literally everywhere around the world? You could travel by plane with your instrument, pretending it was personal luggage. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Something like this:

Yes! Definitely yes!

It is time to leave my musical instrument behind and choose another, more convenient for transportation. After the oboe and the violin, my next instrument could be none other than the one on which Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin sounds best. Or some jazz standards and soundtracks that can be combined with the piano, but in the majority of cases I want to travel and take my instrument with me, I would just pick (and pack) 😆 the one you see resting on the keyboards:

The clarinet.

Who would guess that!?

You may not remember, but a long time ago I tried to quit the piano and choose another instrument for myself. Every time it ended up as a joke, it was just a challenge here on Hive. I had fun making those posts, even though they were always jokes, and they ended with saying that it can't be true, but this time it's true. You see, the clarinet is here in my room and my neighbours have already started to get used to this new sound.

I can't reveal which tunes have been practised today, but if you are curious and want to listen to them, then I kindly invite you to come to Hive Open Days in Alicante. In less than two months, and a little more than a month, exactly on the first day of May, some interesting songs will be heard at the meetup. 🎶

Oh, wait!

My hand looks a bit different! What happened? 😱

Am I not the one holding this clarinet? Who is it then?

You are free to guess the person who came to the city I live in to spend a weekend and practice for the Hive Open Days with me (kudos to her, really, for making such a trip for these rehearsals). Tomorrow we will continue with the rehearsals and get more tunes ready! :)) And my post once again finishes with the same phrase regarding changing my piano for any other instrument... It can't be true! 😉

At least electronic pianos are portable. I play drums and that can be a pain to transport. I've taken a guitar or ukulele to some of the Fests. The uke is very portable.

Have fun playing together. I guessed who it might be before I saw the other response.

Thanks, we had a great reading through some songs today, and tomorrow more :)

You know the issues then, luckily ukulele is much easier to transport than the whole drum set :)

Good evening—or good morning—@mipiano... I would be delighted to hear you play the piano, the clarinet, or whatever else you feel like playing... I believe there are about 40 days left until the Alicante gathering. The time is drawing near!

A very big hug!

Good evening @enraizar

Of course, I stay with my instrument, with the piano. The clarinettist lady will delight everyone with her playing ✨. It will be fun (we hope 😁)

Have a great weekend, hugs 😇

It doesn’t matter what instrument you play, you’re brilliant at music!!! I’d take a violin with me… if I knew how to play it…😆

That hand… it’s not yours, is it? Or is it, in some parallel universe! That would be easy to carry.

I can just picture your husband lugging the piano around everywhere… thank goodness it has wheels!!😉

That hand is a hand of a fellow Hiver :D
Not a parallel universe, oh well, maybe, as the very strange thing is that I didn't have to work today (which is very rare these days 😂) So yeah, we practiced today as well 🎶🎶

I love the Clarinet. Im thinking there has to be room for Stranger on the Shore on your repertoire!
Have a beautiful weekend

We got a fun repertoire 🥳🎶. We read through many songs we picked, then made a final selection so now we just have to study each of us until we see each other again in May 😂
Thank you and a great weekend to you too 😊

I can't wait to hear the result of those rehearsals!!

You have reminded me of the years when I went with my guitar from one side to the other. El tamaño importa... At least you have the help of your piano-sitter husband. 😝

Enjoy and see you soon. 🥰

Ps. Hugs to the owner of the mysterious hand. And for you, of course.

Haha, piano sitter. 😅😂
Today while we took a walk through the city, Alessandra had her clarinet in her purse. But it's also a bit heavy so in the end it was again Mr Ph who carried around a musical instrument without being a musician 😜

Thank you 😊

Your story is a beautiful reminder that music, like life, is a journey of constant change. Your husband’s laughter at the mention of the flute is a symbol of the connection forged through daily routine, and it is those rituals that often anchor us in the present. The decision to swap the piano for a clarinet is not only a practical move, but a reflection of your willingness to explore new melodies and possibilities. Music, at its core, is freedom and transformation, and I love how you allow yourself to play with those ideas. I’m sure the Open Days at Hive will be a vibrant space where creativity will flourish, bringing everyone together in a celebration of musical diversity. I wish you all the best in this new adventure, and I look forward to hearing those melodies that have begun to resonate in your life.

You had me worried for a minute there ... although I confess I have a violin and a recorder as well ... but the piano keeps pulling me right back ... like Michael Jordan tried to play baseball for a minute ... but basketball pulled him right back!

Hahaha, it can't be true, right?
Well, I can't imagine my life without piano, so no, I would never leave it 😉 and I think it's the same with you. Just this week I had three rehearsals with different people/different pieces/for different performances. Me always behind the keys 🎹 😉
