Déjà vu
As of yesterday, I had planned for today to be a very productive workday, especially considering the workload I have. I intended to start very early in the morning and take a rest in the afternoon, possibly even catching a nap, since I didn’t get enough sleep on Sunday night.
When daybreak came, I surprisingly found myself engaged in something entirely different, and it was around 10 a.m. before I finally got around to my main work. I was rushing to catch up before the hot weather intensified, and in the process, I forgot to eat, even though hunger was knocking on the door of my belly. Then, I experienced a déjà vu moment when a tricycle drove past our street, blasting music through its loud speakers—playing “IDG” by Asa and Wizkid. The sound system on the tricycle was exactly like the one I used to hear on that same spot two years ago, back when we had a barbing salon in the building next to our house. The employee at the time loved this same song—“IDG”—and would always put it on repeat.

The moment the tricycle drove past, I felt like I was transported back in time to when the guy was still working at the salon and constantly playing that song. It made me fall in love with the track. It was a strong déjà vu, and I returned to the present instantly. What a good feeling I had!
After that moment, my mind began to drift back to those memories, reminiscing about how I once used to complain that the guy wasn’t a good music listener because he played one song from morning till night. But eventually, I ended up falling in love with the song myself.
I remember the guy clearly—his face always gave the impression of someone who had smoked something before coming to work. Anytime I went to the shop back then, whether to watch football or to get a haircut, he would always be bobbing his head while the song played. He behaved like someone high on weed.
But I came to understand everything much better when he stopped working and the shop eventually closed down. That song clearly had a way of getting to him, and judging by how he played it repeatedly, it must have been his all-time favourite.
So, I fell for the song too. I added it to my playlist when the shop closed down. Unfortunately, my previous phone took the song away from me when it got bad, and ever since then, I never really bothered to get it back. But today, after experiencing that moment and hearing the song again, I added it back to my playlist—and it’s been so much fun jamming to it.
The song isn’t very popular. It’s like only three of us know the song—me, that guy, and whoever is reading this. Lol.
Thanks for reading.
