Broken and Beautiful

Most people laugh at me when I say I watch animated movies and anime, but I love it and there is nothing to be ashamed of. My favorite animated movies are the ones that have musical features, I find it intriguing and fun as I get to learn new songs and also sing along. Well, this brings me to my favorite song.

Broken and Beautiful by Kelly Clarkson, released in 2019, it’s funny how this gets to be my favorite song as broken and beautiful are two contradicting words. Most broken things turn out to be extremely ugly and people tend not to like it. So it’s so difficult to find things that are broken and beautiful. Well, I got to hear this song for the first time when I saw “Ugly Dolls”. The Lyrics of the song got to me and I understood the message it was trying to pass on.

In this animated movie Ugly Dolls, there are sets of dolls that are termed ugly due to their appearance so they can never be sent as dolls to kids. This is because most kids do not love ugly dolls and are so scared of them. These dolls are sent to a tunnel in the world of toys termed Uglyville. The dolls left Uglyville to search for kids who could love them even if they were broken and ugly. All they wanted was to find kids who would love them regardless.

The animated movie tackles the issue of shaming someone due to their appearance and I love the fact that the producers were able to do this through the kid's way. It is okay to say I resonate with the lyrics of this song so well. We are in a world where people are judged by how they look and most times, some people would not want to associate with a physically disabled person cause they feel they are ugly. But it’s high time everyone knew that you could be broken and still look beautiful.

I think this song became my favorite when I sent it to my close friend to make him feel better when he complained nobody wanted to be friends with him cause of his fractured hand. But I think right now his self-esteem is built cause he is a model and he is doing well, and now everyone wants to associate with him. That’s to say you can be broken and beautiful.

Most times we feel insecure because of our looks, maybe our face, our body, or our skin, but nobody is perfect. Yes, everyone strives for perfection but in Kelly Clarkson’s song, we are made to see that you can be broken and beautiful. No matter what you think you are, no matter if you feel you are in terrible shape. It is important to know that you are beautiful.
