David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) Drawing - The Best Guitarist [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends, good evening to the entire DiyHub community. I hope you're all doing well. This time, I want to share with you a drawing I did of David Gilmour, the legendary guitarist of Pink Floyd. There's really no single measure that can determine who's the best guitarist. Sometimes we think that technique and mastery of the strings are enough to say if someone is better, but for me, that's not enough. Or rather, technique doesn't matter to me if what the guitarist plays doesn't convey feeling. David Gilmour isn't just a guitar virtuoso; he's one of the guitarists who evokes the most feelings and emotions in me when I listen to his solos. Pink Floyd's genius owes a lot to the atmosphere that this man was able to create, so I'm Team Gilmour. I did this drawing with a white pencil on black cardstock. It's an old portrait from the 70s, and I want to show you how I made it. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos, buenas noches para toda la comunidad de DiyHub, espero que se encuentren muy bien, en esta oportunidad quiero compartir con ustedes un dibujo que hice de David Gilmour, legendario guitarrista de la banda Pink floyd. No existe realmente una medida que sirva para valorar quien es mejor guitarrista, a veces pensamos que tanta técnica y maestría tiene al manejar las cuerdas y eso basta para decir si alguien es mejor, pero para mi eso no es suficiente, o mejor dicho, la técnica no me importa si lo que toca el guitarrista no me transmite un sentimiento. El señor David Gilmour no es solo un virtuoso de la guitarra, sino que es uno de los guitarrista que mas sentimientos y emociones genera en mi mente al escuchar sus solos, la genialidad de Pink Floyd le debe mucho a la atmósfera qui este señor era capaz de crear, así que soy Team Gilmour. Este dibujo lo he realizado con lápiz blanco sobre cartulina negra, un retrato antiguo de los años 70 que aquí quiero mostrarte como lo hice, espero les guste.

Unlike many of my previous drawings, I started this one without a preliminary sketch, relying solely on my mental image and what my eyes projected to establish well-defined proportions. So I simply worked on what would be the face, carefully defining each feature.

Al contrario de muchos dibujos anteriores, este lo he comenzado a realizar sin un boceto previo, nada más que confiando en la imagen mental y en lo que mis ojos proyectan para hacer unas proporciones bien delimitadas. Así que voy simplemente haciendo lo que sería el rostro, marcando muy bien cada parte.

In this first part of my drawing, I'm using white crayons, the kind used in schools. I use these for the initial lines because they don't show up very well on the paper; they're good for creating lines and outlines on which other materials will be applied later. So, what I'm doing is carefully shading the face, painting some areas very lightly and leaving others simply black, taking advantage of the color of the cardstock.

En esta primera parte de mi dibujo lo que utilizo es un color blanco de cera, los que son escolares, estos colores los utilizo para las primeras líneas ya que no se marcan mucho en el papel sirven para hacer líneas y contornos sobre los cuales más adelante se aplicará otra clase de material. Así que lo que hago es hacer bien las sombras en el rostro, pintando algunas partes muy suaves y la otras dejándolas simplemente en negro, aprovechando el color de la cartulina.

Once I've applied the first layer of white wax crayon, I begin using white charcoal. I use this color to increase contrast and especially to create the reflection of light on people's faces. Here, for example, the light is coming from above on the left side, so I'm painting this whole area little by little, in layers, with white charcoal.

Una vez que ya he realizado la primera capa de color blanco con el color de cera, comienzo a utilizar el color de carboncillo blanco. Este color lo uso para aumentar el contraste y especialmente para hacer el reflejo de la luz en el rostro de las personas. Aquí por ejemplo la luz vien desde arriba en el costado izquierdo, así que toda esta parte la voy pintando poco a poco y por capas con el color blanco de carboncillo.

Then I apply a second layer of white charcoal. Here you can see how the face gradually gains volume, and the contrast of the lighting becomes more pronounced. To add more depth, I paint small shadows with black, making them appear deeper and enhancing the contrast even further.

Luego voy aplicando una segunda capa de carboncillo blanco, aquí pueden ver como el rostro poco a poco va aumentando el volumen, y a su vez el contraste de la iluminación se ve mejor. Algo que hago para agregar más fuerza es pintar con el color negro pequeñas sombras, así estas se ven mas profundas y el contraste aún se ve mejor.

I also apply black to the shadows in the hair and where the light doesn't reach the eyes. I'm also gradually sketching the hair that David Gilmour wore long in the 70s, using a white pencil and making quick, irregular strokes to give the hair a better appearance. After that, I move on to the shoulders and draw the shirt and one of his hands, the right one, which is playing the strings of his electric guitar.

También aplico el color negro en las sombras del cabello, y donde los ojos no le llega la luz. También voy haciendo poco a poco el cabello que David Gilmour usaba largo en los 70, lo voy haciendi con lápiz blanco y haciendo trazos rápidos y accidentados para que el cabello tenga una mejor apariencia. Después de eso voy siguiendo por los hombros y dibujo la camisa y una de sus manos, la derecha la cual toca las cuerdas de su guitarra eléctrica.

To further accentuate the highlights and light, I used white paint applied with a very fine brush, allowing me to create the finest lines, for example, in the hair and along the edges of the face. I painted the guitar, its long neck, and its left hand, which can travel along the neck and produce the best solos in history.

Para acentuar más los reflejos y las luces utilizo pintura blanca puesta con un pincel muy fino, así pode hacer las líneas más finas como por ejemplo en el cabello, y así también en los bordes del rostro. Hice la guitarra el largo mastil y su mano izquierda, con la cual puede recorrer el mastil de la guitarra y sacar los mejores solos de la historia.

What do you think of the result? I liked how I was able to capture the effect of the light; in other drawings it hasn't turned out so well, but this time I was able to do a better job. Pink Floyd, before their breakup, made legendary works; it goes without saying, for example, the album The Dark Side of the Moon, a beautiful work of art that I can listen to for hours during the day. If you haven't heard Gilmour, I recommend it; you'll feel like you're flying through the galaxy. For now, that's all. I'll say goodbye with the hope of returning soon! Blessings!

¿Qué les parece el resultado? me gustó como pude captar el efecto de la luz, en otros dibujos no me ha quedaod muy bien epro ahora pude hacer un mejor trabajo. Pink Floyd antes d ela separación hizo trabajos legendarios, de más está mencionar por ejemplo el discho The Dark Side of The Moon, una hermosa obra d earte que puedo escuchar por horas durante el día.
