Concerted Effort

Considering I didn't understand the words and only recognized a few songs, the concert I attended last night was pretty good. The band music was not to my taste, but I did enjoy the interplay with the symphony. We had "VIP" tickets, which meant that we had seats, as well as started with a buffet, some wine and at intermission, some more wine. The seats were very good, as one of the team needs special access, and the seats were chosen so we could all sit together.

I didn't realize the band was as old as they were, as they started way back in the early 90s, when they were 16 years old, and haven't really stopped since. There are a couple pictures of the crowd, and you might notice that there are not too many people devoid of wrinkles. One of our team members is a big fan of the band and has been following them since they started and he wasn't even yet a teen. He now heads up a division at our company.

Unfortunately, once the gig was over, while I suggested going for one somewhere, some people were already in the way home mindset. Thankfully, one of the member of my team and one from the other didn't flake and kicked on for one or two somewhere else. Everywhere was packed and we wanted to talk, so we ended up at an absolute dive bar that has been running forever, but in my 21 years here, I have never ventured within.

Even this place was near capacity.

But we found a free table and plonked down for the next few hours.

I haven't sat around like shooting the shit this for a very long time, and was really nice to do. We ended up sitting there, drinking slowly, talking about music, movies and the artificial intelligence future for a few hours - until another colleague randomly walked into the bar (a little tipsy) and joined us also. Then the conversation turned more work focused, but it was interspersed with a lot of other topics.

My work role future is a little bit up in the air at the moment, and while there are some interesting things on the table, the economy doesn't fill me with a lot of enthusiasm. I want to stay with the company too, so it means that I have to try and make a position for myself, or at least convince others that they need me for certain tasks. The chances of me losing my position at the company are there, but it is hopefully pretty slim.

Would be nice if crypto came through.

Would take a lot of worry out of job requirements, wouldn't it?

But there is not much else I can do to change the current situation than I am currently doing, so what ever happens happens - and the band will play on. Time doesn't stop for anyone.

But on that note, the clocks wind back tonight as summer time ends and we head into winter. It is an absolutely ridiculous practice to change the time in order to trick the mind for a couple weeks that there is more light. The sun comes up when it does, it sets when it does, and changing the clocks does nothing to change nature. Yet, humanity keeps trying to beat the system, rather than work with the reality of it.

We need something new out of ordinary from time to time. For me, was going to a very expensive shopping oriented village, where everything is like Prada, Armani and other brand names. I did buy a brand name BROWNIE cake, for £6, and few pairs of socks. But I liked to look around and imagine what all those people paying 2000 for one afternoon at shopping can do to quickly become financially free.

£200 socks perhaps? ;D

My wife and I would go to some of those villages when travelling sometimes, and pick up a few things - but it is over a decade since we have done that. Back then at least, coming from Finland, the prices were "reasonable" compared to the cost here. But, we would never buy much, but liked looking through the shops. I like shopping - I am not much of a buyer though :)

It has not been changed for 8 years in my country, therefore children go to school and workers go ro work in the dark, which is not safe for everyone. It also affects people's psychology.

At mid-winter, there is only a few hours of light here anyway - so "saving" a little now doesn't make a difference, as it will be lost again soon.

Did you ever mention the name of the band in the last couple of posts? I don't remember seeing it. I love checking out new music. I have a really hard time in most bars. If it was as packed as you say, I doubt I would have been able to focus on a conversation to save my life. When there is too much going on I see lips moving, but I hear nothing!

The band is called Apulanta (Fertilizer). Not the best band by a long shot, but they have been doing it for a long time now and that takes some energy!

I don't mind bars, but I think you would have been fine in this one, as it was still talkable in there. Not too much shouting - and the music was background only.

A night that was more than just going to a concert. It feels good when we do things like that, that are out of our routine. And with interesting conversations in between.
The system... the matrix! Hahaha...

I really liked this photo.

I might want to go back into the matrix - get that steak dinner!

while I suggested going for one somewhere, some people were already in the way home mindset.

I do not like this quitter mindset. I'm glad you found a few people to keep the night going. I also really enjoy these conversations, when you can get your work people out of work mode and have those genuine interactions outside of the workplace (and a little alcohol never hurts).

It is an absolutely ridiculous practice.

Arizona is a seemingly lawless place to live, but one thing this state got spot on correct was getting rid of this daylight savings time. While it was great for keeping the sun and timing consistent year round, it is a little annoying to have to adjust as everyone else around you does move their clocks. There's always a few goofs in those first few weeks after the switch, but it is great having sun in the sky around the same place year round.

When we are out of usual context, our mindset changes and our thoughts shift into other topics. It is freeing!

I guess in Arizona, there isn't a big difference in light?

Here where I am, the change is massive. midsummer there is about 19 hours of sun above the horizon - in mid winter, about 5 hours of it above :)

Spot on... Arizona is one of the southern states, so it has a more consistent sun/moon schedule. I just assume it has a range +/- 2 hours or so.

For people to have been in practice of something since the 90s, they must be perfect in their presentation now
