Wedding Tunes

The sky is blue, the sun is blazing, I still have some left-over vibes from yesterday's Jamsession in the restaurant. Not many musicians showed this time, but we were able to dig up some songs from long ago. Now, I'm getting ready to join a wedding, cleaning up, getting the beard in shape, putting on some nice clothes. Ellie is on that for about 1h now, and will probably take another 2h, so we'll get there somewhat in time.

My only "nice" outfit that is not a suit. Since it's a wedding, I'll put on socks without holes.
The whole wedding thing will be quite the slaughter, Ellie and I promised ourselves to drink as much water as possible between the other drinks. And I'm going to have to prepare some food now, so I won't be as affected as fast. But I know my peers in that group, and it's going to be fun, but devastating. So, if I don't check in tomorrow, no need to call the cops.

For some reason, every wedding reminds me of Rise Against - Swing Life Away.

To me, it's an ode to friendship and figuring life out together, something that I wish a marriage to be like. The song, one of the few acoustic ones and honestly the best acoustic that Rise Against made, was on their best album - Siren Song of the Counter Culture. If you like punk-rock, that's a good one to check out. I got into Rise Against due to Need for Speed Underground, their song "Give it all" is featured in the soundtrack.

The other day I wrote about working hand in hand, and that automatically triggered memories from my younger youth - Beatsteaks was one of my favorite bands back then, and especially the song "Hand in Hand" was a go-to-for any day. I'm so programmed by now, that everytime I hear a song from the past, I think of the #saturdayselections - so, here it is, hope you enjoy the hard rock.

Sunshine, blue skies and weekends can only get better with two more things - electronic music and a beer. One of my favorites is Paul Kalkbrenner's "Berlin Calling" album.

(The preview says that it's not allowed on hive, so if you can't see the video, here's the link - I hope it works. If not, just search for "Paul Kalkbrenner Berlin Calling Soundtrack")

Whenever I hear that album, I'm transported back to university-years. Sitting in the grass in summer, near the river, talking, discussing, relaxed and unaware. Cherished memories, from times were memories where neurons in your brain, and not bits and bytes on your cellphones. When we told stories instead of watching them.

I like that music can bring that back up. The feeling. The nostalgia. The smiles. I like that our brains work like that, if we let them.

What song brings back the best memories for you, and why?

Nice job! I honestly hadn't heard the first two before, they must not have made it big across the pond in the US. Berlin Calling I had heard before, but I enjoyed all three tunes. Some excellent choices!

I'm glad you enjoyed them! Beatsteaks are probably not that famous outside Germany, but Rise Against are from the US - but also quite the niche band, not mainstream at all. At least at the time I listened to them.

To see Berlin Calling in that list is a surprise somehow but also a proof of the "planetary connections of minds" we discussed yesterday, while watching Kalkbrenner's film. You are right, it provides some kind of timetravel. And at least for me is now connected to some new memories.

It's a great movie, I have to watch it again. And yes, that's quite the coincidence 😅
