Making a Playlist on InLeo - Not Entirely Convinced ...

When writing posts, ideally I want to create things that may be worth revisiting once in a while. It could be a TV series I enjoyed and want to recommend to someone, so it is convenient to just send them a link to a review I wrote about it. Or I may want to illustrate an earthship build with some photos, and maybe some text. The same goes for music, whether it is a song, a whole album, a certain artist, or an entire (sub)genre of music. In all of these cases it's nice to have a post I can come back to. I guess they're called evergreen posts. (Btw, I don't think this post will qualify as such, but let's see...)

Reasons for Making a Playlist

What is a playlist, really, but a list of songs, put together simply because they belong together, according to whatever criteria you may choose. Maybe they evoke similar memories, or just have a similar style, or they could have a certain message or meaning for the listener. In fact, most albums are arranged with some thought behind them, making them essentially playlists of the artist(s). But we are free to mix and match, so it has been a common practice to make mix tapes, later mix CDs, before going fully digital and calling the end result a playlist. The point is always the same: to play a selection of songs in a particular order, or at least grouped together to shuffle through.

Playlists on InLeo with MusicOnLeo

Yesterday I saw a tutorial post by @taskmaster4450le where he explained in great detail how to go about in making a playlist on InLeo. I thought it was quite interesting, as I like the focus on evergreen posts, using the blockchain for more than a momentary blogging experience, where the "valuable content" is pretty much ignored and forgotten once the payout is claimed. Could it possibly be, that a list of songs I put together may have a longer utilitarian value? Maybe something I could come back to regularly? It's certainly worth an attempt!

Picking an Old Favorite

Instead of tackling a whole new project, I decided to post a playlist that I have had and enjoyed for quite some time. It's a selection of oldies, mostly from the 1970's, which all evoke a feeling of freshness, purity, and comfort. Kinda like a beautiful morning, where you get up naturally to see the sunrise, and then enjoy the early hours in peace and quiet. I believe the artists behind these songs must have been inspired by a similar feeling. So following @taskmaster4450le 's instructions, I first created the title page in form of a Thread, where I included the tags #musiconleo and #playlists, which are essential items to make them accessible as such. As title image I chose a pic from Pixabay of morning dew illuminated by the rising sun.

First Problems in Practicality

It wasn't until my playlist was finished, when I realized that there were not very many playlists under the tag #playlists, including those by @taskmaster4450le himself. What did I do wrong? Clearly, I used the wrong tag! The correct one (or let's say more common one) is #playlist in the singular. But to change this, I would need to delete the whole thread and start over, since editing them is only possible with a Premium account. Oh well!

The next issue was my constant wonder, whether a song has been added properly (or not). The instructions are quite straight forward: After creating the title thread, each song is added as a separate comment to it. First you add the title of the song (as well as the artist), then you paste the link to where the song is stored (YouTube, 3Speak, etc.). But the warning sign threw me off: If I want to share a link, I need to post the top-level thread and then make a reply thread with the link??? I believe that's exactly what I did!

End Result Not Too Impressive

Once I had added all the 19 songs on my playlist, I took a step back to admire my work. In other words, I hit the refresh button, because I suspected that not everything had been put in its rightful place. Unfortunately, this didn't help much, and waiting a day had just as little effect. As you can see in my screenshot, just about every other song does not have a corresponding link! The link is there, as I found out, but you'd have to open the respective reply thread to see it. Maybe this is also the reason why my entire playlist has gone virtually unnoticed, in terms of votes and comments.

Conclusion

So even though I listed a number of links to songs in a Threadstorm on InLeo, I don't really believe it will actually serve as a functional playlist. At least, I can't see myself revisiting my treads to listen to them. Opening the reply where each song is listed individually, only to click on the link, sort of defeats the purpose. Instead, I'd much rather load the playlist saved on my audio device, activate the loop, the shuffle, or both, and then lean back, enjoy my morning coffee, and read the newest Hive posts in my feed, while the sweet tunes of the 70's just keep flowing.

Is It Just Me?

Have you experimented with Threads on InLeo? Have you maybe attempted making a playlist yourself? If so, I'd be interested in your experiences, because I can't help feeling I may have done something wrong. It could also be, that the whole platform needs to be updated (again), which is fine, but I'd prefer if I had failed to notice something essential. In that case I'd be right back to making more playlists, not only for me, but for everyone else to enjoy or/and to criticize.
