From Struggle to Success ( Journey of Trumpet)

Warm greetings to everyone on this community,I say a big weldone to the moderators here.i must commend you all for a continuous job weldone.

I started my music career in two thousand and thirteen (2013) properly that's when I started my music career. I am lover of music and a lover of instrument in particularly. I was not a member of any choir. I was not a member of any musical group but anywhere music was I participated very well to see how I will learn. I had this passion to learn how to play the keyboard. I had this passion to just know how to play one musical instrument just to function in church to the glory of God. I wanted to just play all my interest was just to play to see that I will be identified as an instrumentalist.

So I began by trying to play the keyboard. I got a tutor but the person came only once and then I moved. I started learning how to play the drum set on my own. I normally gather cans of milk and I will get stick and I will arrange them in the format of drums. Most times I even use a plastic chair to arrange them and see how I could move further. I tried and I tried!! and I tried and I tried.

Finally, in the year two thousand and thirteen, (2013) I saw a group of boys playing trumpets. A group of brigadiers rejoicing doing their brigade thing, doing their road work, playing the trumpet, playing a favorite song that was popular and trending then, Ayew by Davido a popular Nigerian afro singer. And I so much love the way they were playing and that let me to start thinking of how to learn the trumpet.

And I went further to call my mistress I was staying with in a far off local government because she is an evangelist that a seed of a trumpet was sown to her. So she sent it to me and I began learning the trumpet from the paper. Luckily that period of time, two of my friends too took interest to learn the trumpet also. And one of them had a visiting trumpeter that came to his church. So that trumpeter wrote on the paper on how to play the trumpet, beginners level. And the second friend of mine copied it from him and I also copied it from that person. That began my trumpet journey.

I began with that letter inscription two weeks later that same guy I saw on the street playing visited my area again for the second time. And Anglican church were holding a crusade and they pick my compound because it was a government quarters as the venue for the program. It was an outreach, an outdoor program. So I quickly walk up to him and I spoke with him. He introduced himself as Joseph, the son of an apostolic pastor, an apostle in the apostolic church. So he was far off from my location. He lived in a place called Obudu, where the cattle ranch is, in Nigeria. And I live in Ogoja, all in Cross River State, both in Nigeria.

So we began chatting on Facebook. We were talking and he asked me how much I was going to pay. So when I asked him how much, we began the bargaining the price. As of then, eh, I was a student, ehm still just entering my senior secondary after an illness of four years. So we bargain, bargain, bargain. And I said I was going to pay him ₦3,000, (three thousand naira). Wow, that was really small.
But even I couldn't afford it,but I agreed I was going to look for it by any legal positive means.

So that same month, he spoke on phone with me and said he's father have been transferred to my location. But he's, though, a student in his area, a university student then. So he came and we began one or two teachings. And I also got admission to senior secondary school in my state capital, Calabar precisely where the carnival is being held.

And talking about my journey, I went to the state capital and began learning the trumpet from another person, one person who was like a friend, we were age bracket, but he knew how to play the trumpet more than I do. I started learning from him. That began my knowledge of how to play the trumpet from novice to and Amateur....

So far so I didn't get to today without struggles.infact am the best among my three friends we started learning together, one no longer plays the trumpet he is a professional Bass guitarists, the other plays little but a good drummer and professional pianist. There were many up and down, there were many challenges. There were many online classes that I attended. I was confused at some point and wanted to go back, but I kept on pressing. And today, I'm a trumpeter, not just a trumpeter, a good one, a guru, a professional one that has trained many people. I have many boys. I have played for army generals. I have played for many army occasions like weddings, though I'm not a picture type that normally keeps most pictures. I've played for carnivals. I have played for churches. I have played for birthday parties. I have played for many celebrations.

All this came to pass due to consistency. I was consistent enough. And thank God for helping me, and my mother was strongly by my side, encouraging me. I'm very happy today that I'm a trumpeter and outstanding one at that.

To be continued......

So dear friends, the solution to anything you want in life is to be consistent. Furthermore, I didn't have only one tutor. Many tutors taught me. Only two eyes, I'm not advising to go for many tutors, but if I see it's not working, I move. I look for another person. And that's how I ended up becoming a good trumpeter.

I'm happy and I'm very happy. In that, your struggle, keep it up. You're gonna make it. You're gonna come true. Don't give up.
