Monday Drumday: Chopping
I have mentioned before that I was doing the 30 Day Chops course on Drumeo. I found it a fun challenge even if I could not play the more difficult patterns. I at least tried some of them. You have so many options on Drumeo if you get the yearly package. You can work through the Method lessons, take a course on some specific skill, watch some top drummer show their techniques or play along to some of the thousands of songs they have with full notation.
They are putting together a collaboration video of people playing stuff from this course, so I did a short one. I would not expect more than a few seconds to make it into the finished product, but I recorded about a minute.
I had not played this rhythm for a while, but it soon came back to me. I think the course moved my skills up a notch.
I had a fun music session yesterday as @daniellemurray invited some friends to play in her garden. I took along my guitar and ukulele. @purplesinger was there along with Bob, who I hope to recruit to Hive soon. We played loads of tunes that we have done in our various bands over the last few years. I was surprised my fingers were not really sore as I have not played that much guitar in a while. The weather was great, but it has rained a lot today, so we were lucky.
Rock on!
I'll be sure to show my son (7) to these when we get home from holidays.. he's an aspiring drummer...
That's cool. I'm sure he'll be better than me soon.
!BEER
That'll take time but he's loves it and it gives some balance to his sport and other pastimes
Great session -- glad we didn't wear you out too much!
Nice job! I really need to start looking into guitar courses. I am sure there are some really great ones out there.
There's a guitar school from the people who do Drumeo, but there is so much free stuff on Youtube these days. I wish I'd had that when I started playing. If I want to learn a song now I can find several videos to teach it to me.
I'll check that out. Thanks!
Nice patern.
You remind me of one of my classmates when we were in high school
He was not brilliant in school but he was a very talented drummer...
I may be the other way around :)
That's a complicated one Steve. I've never got as far as anything quite that complex.
The beats on that course got really complicated and I couldn't do them all, but it was fun anyway. He based it around the various rudiments like paradiddle and doubles. It was a good exercise to push me along. I need to keep doing such exercises to train my brain.
