Welcome to Week 39!

This week’s theme was Movie Soundtracks, and I sang “The Winner Takes It All” from the movie Mamma Mia. Now, Mamma Mia isn’t just any movie for me. Itt’s one of my absolute favorites. I honestly think it’s the greatest musical of the 2010s (fight me on this 😌). I have so many fond memories of watching it over and over again with my family, singing along to every single song.

If you noticed I looked a little teary during my performance… you’re right. This song really gets to me. In the movie, Donna (played by Meryl Streep) sings it during such an emotional moment. She finally lets go of the silent battle between herself and one of her suspected baby fathers. It’s her way of admitting defeat, but with grace. The lyrics hit hard: in life and love, somebody wins, somebody loses… and the winner always takes it all.

It was a challenge to record because I had to keep my voice controlled. I didn’t want to disturb my neighbors since I was singing in the evening. (Which is why I didn’t end up doing 'Golden' from K-Pop Demon Hunter like I originally planned. That one had me practically screaming 🤣. Maybe next time!)

I truly loved singing this, and I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed performing it.
