Motivational Mondays: Don't Get Hung Up On the Past, Because...
I missed a bus recently and realized: I could safely walk home faster, now that my anemia is mostly resolved! On the way I passed a home with the above sign, and that started me to thinking about San Francisco's storied history and everything that happened in so many years in so many places here ... and how none of all that mattered to me enjoying the day and getting the most of my life.
The past, with all its great days, is indeed gone, and that sign reminded me that it has no power over us in the present.
On the other hand, focusing too much on the past causes us to miss the beauty and power of the present -- there was a sign at the very next entry way to that same house that reminded me that anything can happen, even in the next three seconds!
Please believe that I get the most from my zoom function on my camera at times like this, and I know when it is time to get moving ... you have to know when to be running for your life!
But also know I went away laughing at a reminder about the truth about life: everything is happening in front of us as we walk into it. The past tells us where we have been, but what happened in 1897 or even yesterday is not running things. Step forward bravely into the future as it becomes the gift of the present to you -- and when you need to, RUN!
Past memory build us for the future we went to create. This reality will be the results of most the old past experiences gathered in each other member of the community.
There is definitely truth to this ... we just have to be careful to use the best of the past, and not assume that the bad parts determine our entire future. We also have to be careful not to compare ourselves with the good and consider ourselves failures. In other words, we have to build wisely on the past, and not assume the past is in charge. We are in charge of what we choose from the past to build our future.

Can they be absolutely sure nothing happened on that site in 1897? ;)
^__^ Good one!
It is indeed an excellent question, given the history of the city in that region at that time ... the present development was at least planned by then. Hayes Street is named for Rutherford B. Hayes, who was president in 1878 ... so we know that 20 years on, something might have been going on...
Now, that is a good question ... we know from the geology of the neighborhood that it is quite likely that the house was not there and a sand dune was ... everything significantly west of me in San Francisco for four miles is ... BUT, in 1897, the plan to turn all these sand dunes into parks and development was well underway because Golden Gate Park is just a block and a half south, and we know that started in the 1880s. So, we cannot be absolutely sure nothing was happening there!
I knew you would provide the history that proved that something probably could have happened at that site. :)
I do try to walk deep in my city ...
Greetings @deeanndmathews ,
What a lovely read....thought provoking....quite enjoyed pondering it.
Sounds like you are feeling better....such good news.
Kind Regards,
Bleujay
I am feeling better ... the tragedy would have been that I never felt bad enough to have known the deep trouble I was in ... but God is good and I am mostly recovered and able to more easily and safely do all the things, including note that hilarious contrast in thoughts at that particular house!
Anything can happen from one day to the next.
Tomorrow will become yesterday
And today's walk will be yesterday's run.
Indeed, every day is a completely new possibility!
