Harbiter diary - 27/07/2025 - Fuck Spotify, but hand-written

Harbiter diary - July 27, 2025

I took my tough decision: I'm taking my music off Spotify.

We need to change this corrupted system and I want to be part of the fight. Why should I sing FEED THE RIOT and speak about burning the rich if then I don't do my part to fight in real life?

I've always been an advocate for bringing back the right value to music, so this choice is the minimum I can do for it, considering that I got nothing to lose yet. I've made roughly 60€ from Spotify in a year. FUCK IT. LET IT BURN, I DON'T CARE.

If I have to spend money to promote my music then let it be for something really valuable and sustainable.

Oh yes, the video for Work Sleep Repeat is almost ready. Coming out this week.

Well, I found you on YouTube music - I've never used spotify, so there, you'll get a few streams ;)

I'm using Youtube music too, but just because sometimes I get really pissed off by advertising and subscribe to premium. So I use YT music to listen to bands that are not on Bandcamp before deciding to buy their music somewhere. I've just found about Qobuz, a high quality streaming platform that let you buy the music too.

I have been using YouTube music / YouTube premium since there was an option to pay for no ads on YouTube. I hate ads on YouTube. So freakin' much.

I have FLAC rips (from CDs that I own that I use at home for listening to music around the house). For newer stuff its just 320kbps YouTube music.

My sister in law is a vinyl fiend, there's something cathartic about listening to an ALBUM IN FULL, but it is oh so expensive.

My vice is a few CD-Rs that I purchased from bands years ago in person. Many of them haven't survived. The CD-Rs, or the bands :P

I've got some music on there, but I make pennies from it, if that. I do listen to music on there too as it's just convenient. I love Bandcamp and have bought a lot of music there.

We need more musicians on Hive where fans can give them real rewards. I can make more from one post than I made from my music elsewhere.

I just saw this cartoon about Spotify. Why do these people have to be so evil?

We need a Hive-based music app. There used to be one that would let you play all the tunes from the old Open Mic contest. If musicians bring their fans here and post tunes then they could earn more than on Spotify. We have the musicians, but not necessarily the fans. If you know anyone who needs a Hive account I can create lots.

I know there's Blocktunes but if I remember well they were asking for an entrance fee to put your music on their streaming platform. But I think they've changed, gonna take another look

We used to have @dsound that was like Soundcloud, but it's long gone. There are costs associated with storing big files off the blockchain. We also have the issue of limited time to get rewards, but people can find solutions for that. 3speak do this stuff for video.

I am not generally making money from music, but we need people talking about how Hive can work for musicians. There is lots of potential.
