Hive Open Mic Week 271 //Original Song// I Look up to the Mountains

There is an adage popularly known and used here in Nigeria that says: “What an elder sees while sitting down, even if a young man climbs an Iroko tree or the highest mountain, he will not see it.” I will come back to this shortly.
Hive Open Mic Week 271, I go by the name @oluthomas, and I am delighted to be part of this amazing community filled with lovely members and fantabulous moderators and admins who work tirelessly for the betterment of every member and the growth of the community. I salute you all.

This week’s theme is {The Mountain}, and I was moved to sing an original song titled “Look Up to the Mountain.” This song was inspired by the Word of God, the Holy Bible. In Psalm 121:1-2, the psalmist says, “I look up to the mountains, where exactly does my help come from?” This is a sincere question in search of a true answer that can end his search for a reality.

It brings me back to the adage I mentioned earlier. Just like the psalmist, who looked up to the mountain hoping to find help, many of us look to great heights or strongholds, with the mindset or beliefs that’s where our solution lies. But at the end of the search we find out that we are still not satisfied. The truth remains, even if a young man climbs the highest mountain, what an elder discerns from experience may still be hidden from him. But I notice that the adage is really true, because there are old people that are not seeing anything and the younger ones are the ones leading or directing them correctly on what to do because of what the young person sees. Though there are old people that can see far because of their past experiences.

The psalmist in the end of his search came to the understanding that help does not come from the mountain itself but from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. That is the ultimate wisdom. The moment you are in search of anything that can only be gotten in Christ you will not get an answer anywhere but only in Christ. God is our only and true source of help in all circumstances. Without Him, every mountain will one day melt away, but He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.
