I directed a Paradise Lost video
In my last post I shared some behind the scenes moments from a recent shoot.
I’m pleased to share the final piece right here Paradise Lost ‘Tyrants Serenade
It’s racked up 653,000 views in 1 month on YouTube which isn’t bad going for a goth doom band these days eh?
The song is absolutely huge with giant melodies and booming drums and crunchy guitars.
Making this video was a relatively straightforward process. I had a clear vision of what the art direction should be, as well as the tone in visual aesthetic details and pace.
The silhouetted shots against the godrays of the light between the crumbling cracks in the walls were the vision. From there it was about an authentic execution.
The performance shoot was as usual a one day event, due to band availability due to being mid-tour (lets face it, video shoots are always a shoehorned non-priority in the grand scheme of a bands existence and purpose! 😆)
I guess it was roughly 1.5 hours with each band member, which was probably enough as evryone was tired out from the show the night before.
I’m really pleased with the blue tones mixed with the warm light, I feel like we captured a cold cabin vibe with a genuine wintry feel, that a few YouTube commentators expressed too.
I chose a wintry feel ahead of autumn landing which inspired some seasonal comments about how some folk are looking forward to the winter months ahead.
What kind of vibe did this song and video give you?
Are YOU ready for Winter??
Ooh, very atmospheric! I'm looking forward to autumn rather than winter. I love the crisp air then, and sometimes the trees are magnificent.
Yay thanks for watching, glad you get the atmosphere! Roll on autumn 🍂
That's pretty epic and it's getting plenty of plays. I quite like autumn as I don't like it too hot. Nature looks more interesting at this time of year. The video looks like they might get a bit cold, but the vibe suits the song.
Rock on!

Thanks for watching @steevc. The shots of the trees I shot a few years ago, in the woods locally to me, one very foggy winters evening. Luckily the right project eventually came along for me to use it on. Autumn is coming in fast 🍂
I expect you collect video clips that could be useful. I can see what you mean about bands not having much time to shoot videos if they are touring. Do they actually enjoy filming? It can be an essential part of the marketing side. The actual performing is just a fraction of their time. Not that I've been in any proper music videos so far. We just tend to set up a static camera to capture our performances to have something to share, but then we have zero budget :)
