Today, we're thrilled to share our latest track, "Jambalaya." This song is especially dear to us, as it was written and recorded in 2023 in San Antonio, Texas, to celebrate the birth of my granddaughter—a new life symbolizing hope and the future.

While in Texas, the quest for simple pleasures highlighted the complexities of freedom. Seeking something as modest as weed proved impossible; even minor actions could put you at risk. Despite these challenges, the warmth and kindness of the people shone brightly. The vast deserts, the proximity to Mexico, and the irony of good weed being burned by authorities painted a vivid picture of contrasts.

Serendipity brought us together with a group of country musicians—friends from a 1999 tour with the New York City Opera. This unexpected reunion led to a collaboration spanning decades. "Jambalaya" weaves together guitars, banjos, bass, and vocals recorded from 1999 to 2023, creating a rich tapestry of sound that bridges the past and present.

The Meaning of "Jambalaya":

In Louisiana culture, "jambalaya" is a traditional Creole and Cajun dish—a hearty mix of meat, seafood, vegetables, and rice cooked together with spices. It's a staple of Louisiana cuisine, loved for its rich flavors and the warmth it brings to gatherings.

While "jambalaya" doesn't literally mean "to have fun" in Louisiana slang, it's deeply associated with celebrations, community gatherings, and good times. In Louisiana, food is the heart of social events, and dishes like jambalaya are central to festivals, family reunions, and parties. The word conjures images of lively music, dancing, and the joy of coming together.
