In Tune with Words - My Hive Editing PlaylistđŸŽ¶

A few minutes ago, I came across an article about how to write easily without procrastinating. One of the highlighted points was to form a writing ritual.

The idea was that if you repeat a certain group of activities before writing every day, your brain will eventually associate those activities with writing and automatically set the mood.

While I am yet to develop a ritual for writing, I do have one I practice while editing. It is something I didn’t realize I did until it became a normal routine. The ritual is that I listen to music when editing.

On a normal day, I’m not a music person, so this ritual started as a result of me trying to avoid the noise in the room. I used to stay with five other girls in a room back in school, and every hour of the day, there was bound to be noise.

The space wasn’t at all conducive to proof-reading, or any type of editing, quite frankly. So whenever I needed to edit, I had no other option but to pull up my YouTube music playlist, plug in my earphones, and blast away.

When I did this the first time, I found that it helped me keep my attention focused on my laptop, as opposed to turning my head at the sound of any person talking. It helped me drown out the background noise.

So I did it again, and again, and again, and eventually it turned into a habit that stuck with me. I found that it gave me the same feeling I get when scrolling on social media. So nowadays, when I write, I subconsciously look forward to editing so I can feel the dopamine.

Even now that I have a quiet work space, I still find myself reaching out to music whenever I need to edit.

My YouTube Playlist

I feel like I need to defend myself a little before I share my playlist with y’all 😅.
Like I mentioned earlier, I am not a music enthusiast. Most of the songs I listen to are the ones my elder brother used to play around the house when we were growing up.

As a matter of fact, I think that was what influenced my preference in music.

If you look closely, you’ll see that there’s a little bit of everything. There’s trap music, and hip-hop, Chris Brown and Beyonce are somewhere in there as well. Most of these songs are quite old and have probably been forgotten. But I don’t mind.

I mostly listen to anything the YouTube algorithm throws my way. Sometimes, it brings me the same exact list of songs for a consecutive week, back to back. But I don’t necessarily mind; as long as I can vibe to it while being productive, that’s all that matters.

Do I need to revamp my playlist? I probably do.

I feel like my playlist represents a part of my personality. I mean, from the look of things, one can tell that I don’t react to change very well. I don’t welcome it, and I would mostly rather be comfortable with what I have grown accustomed to.

Oh well, you live, you learn.

And that is it for my editing playlist. Do you also have a playlist specifically for editing? Kindly share it with me in the comments.

Thanks for reading.

Just like how some(infact many) people say they can't read or do anything brainwork in the midst of sound, and here you are blocking your ears with sound and be brainstorming 😄

I'm here with you on this.
Music has to be on play always anytime I'm writing or editing. Music don't get off my phone... I'm a music person đŸ€—

and be brainstorming

Actually, I can't write when my earphones are plugged in. The music will be too distracting, I won't even be able to form a thought. But when I'm editing, it's easier to listen to music because I don't have think.

You look like a music person😅. Why am I imagining you wearing huge headsets😂.

Thanks for stopping by Kingsleyy.

I fully understand this ✌

You get it right, but I play 'odd' songs, not the regular average Nigerian likes.... I play Afrobeats and not your collections I saw🙈

I think we share something in common here. I don't just jump into any trending stuff, I take my time to adopt only if it has something good to offer me. The number of times I jumped into stuffs didn't favor me.

Very true. It's always good to take time before jumping into anything new.

I can't even count the number of times musics has helped me get things done.
Especially old musics. So I understand you perfectly well sis.

I think I only know Beyoncé and Chris Brown's song from your playlist.

Thank you for sharing.

Oh it's not just youtube, this is youtube music.
It's kind of like spotify. It's tricky in the beginning cos the app is trying to understand your kind of music but once you've used it for a while, it will get easier.
