VIBES WEB3 MUSIC COMPETITION WEEK 39. SONG: OVER RHE RAINBOW/WIZARD OF OZ

Hi hive family! This is my humble entry for the week 39. As always I came supported by my guitar.

This week was fun! I was thinking on it all the time. Which song to bring this time? Movies? Luckily I know few of them, so I went through all. But I was not quite satisfied. I needed another one, something unique. Then, it fell into me. The song I used to participate is one of the most known songs in the history of songs, and it is recognized as the most known song for a movie ever made. I am taking about Over The Rainbow, sung by the lead actress Judy Garland, playing Dorothy, but originally written by Harold Arlen, in the music, and Yip Harburg, in the lyrics, made for the film, back in 1939.

Everyone knows the story told in this film, and no matter if you haven't watched it, there are been several remakes and other versions of the same book written by L. Frank Baum. It is a fascinating story, and in the same way its music. But the truly thing that makes remarkable this piece of the seventh art is the revolutionary way of making movies it brought. Although, it was not the first color movie made, the film begins with a sepia toned black and white atmosphere to condition the audience for one of the most beautiful transitions in the cinema universe: Black and white into color! Using its technicolor 3-strip process, changing everything forever!

The song is a like a lullaby, longing for a better place where to feel oneself free and realized, building a preamble for the crazy and wonderful adventure the characters will have throughout the film. The way I chose to sing was on purpose, trying to keep it as a lullaby, intimate, as a breeze flowing with the heat trying to refresh a little. I hope it worked.

¡Hola, familia de Hive! Esta es mi humilde entrada de la semana 39. Como siempre, vine con el acompañamiento de mi guitarra.

¡Esta semana fue divertida! No paraba de pensar en ello. ¿Qué canción traer esta vez? ¿Películas? Por suerte, conozco algunas, así que las repasé todas. Pero no estaba del todo satisfecho. Necesitaba otra, algo único. Entonces, me encontré con la canción. La que usé para participar es una de las más conocidas en la historia de la música, y es reconocida como la canción más famosa para una película jamás hecha. Les hablo de Over The Rainbow, cantada por la actriz principal Judy Garland, quien interpreta a Dorothy, pero escrita originalmente por Harold Arlen, en la música, y Yip Harburg, en la letra, para la película, allá por 1939.

Todos conocen la historia que narra esta película, y aunque no la hayan visto, existen varios remakes y versiones del mismo libro escrito por L. Frank Baum. Es una historia fascinante, y su música también. Pero lo que realmente hace notable a esta obra del séptimo arte es la revolucionaria forma de hacer cine que impulsó. Si bien no fue la primera película a color, la película comienza con una atmósfera en blanco y negro con tonos sepia para preparar al público para una de las transiciones más hermosas del universo cinematográfico: ¡del blanco y negro al color! Usando su proceso technicolor de tres tiras, ¡cambiándolo todo para siempre!

La canción es como una de cuna, que anhela un lugar mejor donde sentirse libre y realizado, creando un preámbulo para la loca y maravillosa aventura que vivirán los personajes a lo largo de la película. Elegí la forma de cantarla a propósito, intentando que fuera una canción de cuna, íntima, como una brisa que fluye con el calor intentando refrescar un poco. Espero que haya funcionado.
