For all the countries that were part of what was the Soviet Union, May 9 has a very special meaning. That day, in 1945, saw the surrender of the German army, which until a few days before the date had been led by Hitler and which plunged numerous countries into a war that cost the lives of more than 27 million Soviets.

On the occasion of that date, the Victory Day Volunteers movement, with the participation of several embassies of the former Soviet republics, such as Russia, Belarus and Abkhazia, organized a celebration in Caracas, to which I was honored to be invited once again.

I was asked, expressly, to sing one of the most outstanding songs of what they call the "patriotic repertoire". The song День Победы (Victory Day) was composed by David Tukhmanov, with lyrics by Vladimir Kharitonov, for a competition, as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the triumph over fascism. That is, in 1975.

Although the jury did not like the song and criticized it harshly, a couple of months after its "debut", the song was introduced in a television program, with a live audience, and such was the furor of the people who acclaimed it, that they had to repeat it in the same show. Since then, countless covers of this march have been recorded.

Taking advantage of some of the photographic material I took during the event, I decided to record my version and embellish it with part of what was that beautiful tribute that, for the Victory Day, was celebrated in Caracas.

Para todos los países que formaban parte de lo que fue la Unión Soviética, el 9 de mayo tiene un significado muy especial. Ese día, en 1945, se produjo la claudicación del ejército alemán, que hasta unos días antes de la fecha, había sido liderado por Hitler y que sumió a numerosos países en una guerra que le costó la vida a más de 27 millones de soviéticos.

Con motivo de esa fecha, el movimiento Voluntarios por el Día de la Victoria, con la participación de varias embajadas de las ex repúblicas soviéticas, como Rusia, Bielorrusia y Abjasia, organizaron en Caracas una celebración, a la cual tuve el honor de ser invitado una vez más.

Me fue solicitado, expresamente, cantar una de las canciones más destacadas de lo que ellos llaman el "repertorio patriótico". La canción День Победы (Día de la Victoria) fue compuesta por David Tukhmanov, con letra de Vladimir Kharitonov, para un concurso, en el marco de la celebración de los 30 años del triunfo sobre el fascismo. Es decir, en 1975.

Aunque al jurado no le gustó la canción y la criticaron duramente, un par de meses después de su "debut", la canción la introdujeron en un programa de televisión, con público en vivo y fue tal el furor de la gente que la aclamaba, que tuvieron que repetirla en el mismo show. De ahí para acá, son innumerables las versiones que se han grabado de esta marcha.

Aprovechando parte del material fotográfico que hice durante el evento, decidí grabar mi versión y adornarlo con parte de lo que fue ese bonito homenaje que, por el Día de La Victoria, se celebró en Caracas.
